About UtahBMX.com
In early 1999 Justin Pearce & Bruce Ritter were wanting to post up news & pics from the local races via the internet; they came up with the name "Utah BMX.com", so Justin purchased the domain name. They started with one page just posting up a few pics from locals & a description. Then Justin added a 2nd page with his BMX team, Joe's Guitars. He made up a batch of stickers too which are in short supply nowadays.
The following season Jason Melton started contributing photos to the site. In early 01, Justin sustained an injury at the RCQ @ Tooele indoors & decided to retire from the sport. The site continued until May of 01' when Bruce Ritter moved & lost his high-speed internet thus preventing him from contributing to the site. Later in the year, Justin gave the domain name to Melton who ran it until time constraints on his part left the site basically in limbo.
In early 2004, Jason Gallo had begun taking some pictures and video, and needed a place to host the media. He had previously asked Jason Melton about the UtahBMX.com domain, and the possibility of re-engineering the site, and knew the site was available. In early 2004 (April to be exact), Jason Gallo purchased the domain name with initial intentions of using the site as a host to store images and video for posting on other sites.
That original plan was scrapped fairly quickly, as Bruce Ritter once again helped inspire direction for the site. Given the information from past versions of UtahBMX.com, Jason began creating and adding features to the site that allowed it to become a source for information for the Utah BMX community. Early concentration was on pictures of races, but as the community became more involved, the message forums quickly grew to the #1 visited page on the site. Additional features such as rider profiles, polls, interviews, race calendar, points calculator and more recently desktop backgrounds and the new live race webcast have contributed to record levels of viewership each and every month.
The site has since been scaled back a bit recently due to time limitations of operating and maintaining, but it is still proving to be a resource for the Utah BMX community. The most recent redesign was completed in December of 2011, and new features will be coming to the site in 2012. As always, comments and suggestions regarding the site are welcomed and encouraged. THANK YOU for your continued support!
