2011 Rule Changes

Postby JAlvey » Sun Dec 05, 2010 2:33 pm

Just reading through the Dec issue of BMXer and noticed a few things:

1) Great pic of Rylie Edwards and Brooke Oblad from the Redline Finals.

2) 2011 Rulebook is published in there with a few significant changes:

Random Cadence (we all new about that)

COG classes change at locals to match National classes. Instead of 28+ nov, inter, exp, it will now be 28-35 N/I/X, 36-40 N/I/X, and 41+ N/I/X. Lame in my opinion because that's going to replace a bunch of full gate classes with a bunch of low-points motos, esp at the expert level.

8 and under cruiser at locals.

Girls cruisers change to 2- year increments, so there will be 11-12 Gcr, 13-14 G cr, 15-16 G cr, then I think it goes back to the regular classes.

The 20" rule change does blow, it wouldn't of been so bad at the 36+ cutoff but the new rule is going to water down the big gates for sure.

Yep, now we get the "Commie Lib Gate." If you couldn't get out of the gate with ABA cadence, what makes you think you're going to do any better out of the random. Hmmmmm?

I can truthfully say that I dropped the gate on the last significant moto (41x) using the ABA Cadence and TP won it!

“The Day the Music Died” Bye Bye Miss American Pie! Another piece of the good ole USA I grew up in down the toilet!

What’s it gonna be next?

Later...........

I did hear that at least for the nationals, the ABA is getting a random cadence without the trash truck backup beep and resets faster. We'll be getting one of those for the Ogden track since we don't have one already. At least we won't have to hear that stinkin beeping!

Can you imagine how long a national day would take with that stupid beep thing going on. That thing is so slow coming back up that it would probably add more than an hour going through 225 motos.

Even later.........

I think another thing thats going to cause problems for the riders is the announcer yacking while waiting for the gate to drop. Good luck with that!!! It's all a bunch of horse feathers to me! Hope some of you are happy now cause I know some of us ain't. And my opinion has nothing to do with Robby's slingshot. He will still kill it!

Hey Dan,
Think maybe you can get off of your soapbox just for one night & race Saturday night? It would be nice to see a 46+ cruiser class make.......or maybe it already does without you signing up, I don't know.

"Commie lib"??? Isn't that like saying "scared coward"?

some people just don't like change (i'm not talking Obama change).

the ABA aligning itself with the UCI rules just makes sense to me. especially if we want to be able to have our BMXers compete in a global setting... ahem, Olympics anyone?

Also, what about discussion of age groups... it was new to me until a recent discussion brought it to light... say you've got a kid who's birthday is right before grands--for the example he turns 8 on his next birthday... all (ABA) season long he races 7 year-old kids and is a top contender for a NAG plate. Guess what, right before grands he turns 8 so he races a whole new group of kids that he possibly never raced (this example doesn't include him racing cruiser nor opens) and now has no idea where he stacks up or IF he stacks up against a whole new group of racers. What if the rule was aligned with the UCI and he raced the entire season in the age group that he would be by December 31... in this example he would race with kids who are already 8 and turning 8 throughout the season--same kids all season long. No skewed groups of kids. Known factors going into the biggest race of the year, fewer surprises. I think that makes sense to me. But then maybe I'm a commie lib... ;)

Why you got to tie me to that chinese pos? Much prefer a more effective 7.62 nato round w/168 grain match king at 2850 fps mv out of my surplus starlight equipped M14! When you got to get it done, you got to use the right pill!

Brent,
I do see your point about knowing your competition and being accustomed to racing them if we went to a year of birth age group, but I also think there are some positives to the current system. If they went to a year of birth age group the kid born in December and is small for his age is always going to constantly be at a disadvantage to those that have up to a full year of growing and maturity on them. At least with the current system everyone is in that same boat at some point in the year. And if you really look at it most kids will only race a few of the same kids at the National level, unless they race at every single National race to make sure that they get a chance to race everyone in their age group. And even then, unless everyone in their age group does the same you are still not going to get an accurate feel for racing them because you are still racing them under different circumstances. ie. different racers, different track, different atmosphere.

As the kids get older and if they choose to pursue racing BMX professionally they will have to learn to adapt to racing different racers at almost every event. Yah, there is a pretty consistant core group, but with injuries and other scheduling conflicts even the Pro classes are constantly changing.

Disclaimer: AKA of "Snappy" has nothing to do with my ability to snap a gate. It has everything to do with the sound bones make when the break. Don't ask, it's a touchy subject.

Anything in the 2011 rules about the 41+ class NOT being able to snap the gate. I would sure like to have roll-outs each time. Easier on my back and I might be able to ride longer than 3 whole practices in a season. HAHA

The sport was born here. The rules were written here. UCI ought to align with our rules, but you know that will never happen. Got to add all the PC stuff in there while making the tracks insanely dangerous. Got to make sure all those guys know the gates coming up before we send them down that insane start hill and over that big huge double at the bottom. Supercross is not BMX. BMX is not in the Olympics. Supercross is in the Olympics. So we change our rules to match theres effecting some 30 or 40 thousand + people so we can possibly send 3 people to race Supercross in the Olympics. Bet there ain't 1500 people in all of Europe racing bmx, yet we got to align with them. We send our 3 time champion to china on that Supercross track and now he's done with a career ending injury. Where did the Olympic champion spend the night saturday night at the grands cause of that insane crazy and unnessesary crap. You guys go ahead and aspire to have your kid race Supercross for 25 grand a year. I'll come watch!
