Rear axle & freewheel...

Postby shifter » Fri Sep 28, 2007 5:56 pm

Axle:

Ok... took my rear axle out just a bit ago to clean/grease it. As you know, there are several fasteners to loosen before having all the parts out. I don't know the names of the nuts, but there were like 3 or 4 (spacer included). How tight should the inner-most (2) nuts be? To tight and it won't spin, to loose and the axle won't ride true inside the hub.

I just found a balance - some middle ground and finished up, but I want the professional opinion.

Freewheel:

Are there brand/model specific tools to remove a freewheel or is there a gereral tool that works?

Is it a sealed or loose ball hub?

Loose ball hub.

I talked to Heather last night and have the tool coming for the freewheel.

Found this:

There's cartridge and quick release junk in there too, so you have to filter thru for the loose/solid stuf, but it sounds like I did it right.
