Soil-Tac.
Super expensive & it only lasts one season, then you have to re-apply it.

Track appearance.
I honestly don't have a problem with it. Step back & take a look where the track is sitting.....in the middle of a used up gravel pit, next door to a brick plant that looks like crap. The road leading into the complex is horrible. In my eyes it really doesn't matter because the BMX track itself is the highlight of the complex. Who cares if there are a few weeds that need to be pulled when you have rusted out POS trucks & gravel equipment 100 yards away.
Until the County starts up with cleaning up the rest of the complex & putting in other facilities like they have been saying forever, the BMX crowd shouldn't blink an eyelash over it. BTW, the County is not going to take the MTB track away because "it looks bad". If it doesn't start being used then they will consider it for other things but they have been saying that since 99'

Save the money for volunteers a the end of the year & a rainy day. When the ram all of a sudden breaks & RC needs a new one, you don't want to be pointing to the new trees & flowers just planted & say "Well, we don't have a new ram but we have some swweeeet looking shrubs!" :D

Pave the turns.

Florida tracks have them and I never heard a bad word from racers, or track personal. I think that it would be a great addtion to a already great track!

A sign of a good race, is one that you cross the finish line, on your bike!!

After posting a few hours ago I chatted with a friend about this topic. I had some other views presented to me that made me look at the "visual" thing alittle different.
It's 10pm & I just got home from working in the dirt since 5pm. I'll post up some thoughts tomorrow but I think "Guest" is on target to alot of very serious & important thoughts concerning the outdoor tracks.

More tomorrow.

Just got back from Rockford. Robby needs new pants and jersey from Sunday's wet corner crash fest. It probably depends on the composition of the pavement somewhat, but I'm here to tell you that wet pavement is just as slick as mud. There were so many crashes that the racing surface at one spot in the first turn had human skin buildup with this odd red color mixed in, which made it even slicker!!!

I'm just not down with this pavement thing. Again, get better dirt!!!

Maybe if I said I loved it, you guys wouldn't pave it cause I like it!

In a way I agree with Dan but I also agree with a lot of everyone else that it would rock to have paved corners. With this better dirt what about putting that glue stuff that the Orange Y (does Rockford too?) put on their track it makes it smoother and faster. Rad is very smooth and fast so if we put that it would make the track better. Again just an idea.

RAD Canyon has talked about puting in a paved corner for several years but there are alot problems that came up. one is you can't just go out and put pavement in the corner, you have to make sure the corner is perfect any bump, flat spots, or anything thank you don't like must be perfect or it's there for life. second like dan said if you wreck your going to leave behind skin. you could go on about all the good things and bad things. but look at all the stuff that Rad has done and that they could do. they put in a really nice sound system one of the very best in the country even rockford called and asked what we put in after the ABA told them about it... trees for shade and it would really change the looks of the park. pavement around the registration office, never will happen. all the plumbing is in the gravel and if remember right we had to dig it up two years ago because it got plugged up and started going back into the restrooms and kitchen. The weed are not a problem arond this area anyway.. the Problem with weed are out around the north end of the track, If we put down black weed guard then put gravel around that area it would make it nicer and no weeds.. I still think trees are the answer if we could put tree all around the outside of the fenced in area think how much nicer it would look, also it would block some of the wind we get coming from the south. Putting up new signs on the moto boards and at the entrance to the park, painting the guard rail that comes down to the track yellow, painting the buildings, just putting a little T.L.C into our park. That way when they go to put legacy hiway through our park they will know all the hard work that the riders and parents have put into it and they might build us a indoor track next time.. the track can only make it by us as parents and riders putting our part into it. Next time you go to the track look at all the hard work the healeys, cambells, and the rest have done to the track... then look under the bleachers around the fence line and in the bleachers... This is all the garbage we leave every time we leave the track, this is what the county sees when they drive to do stuff for us....put yourself into their shoes, if you had to come and help fix somthing and you drive through the fence and see all the garbage laying around your attitude would change fast.... why does everyone love to race indoors? look at the building. look at the grass trees paint everything about it. It allways looks good inside and out, lets take pride in what we have let's keep the bathrooms clean the garbage picked up and show the county we have pride in what they gave us. let's all get together put some work into our place and show the county all the riders and parents coming to the Great Salt Lake National that our track is the BEST, they all talk about rockford in the east well this is our Rockford of the West "RAD CANYON BMX" we are the best out west......and lets show everyone that...... :D
