Marketing Rad Canyon & BMX
First off, might I say I am so glad to see SO MANY of you getting together on this board to do this! Truly amazing!!! This is our time!
Curtis: I was talking to TP; he said that KBER came out to one of our nationals when Rad was Twin Peaks in Murray in the early 90s.

Also, concerning the advertising on the back of the moto-boards. I have some concerns about this.
A) Location. The back of the moto-boards is like the behind of the track when it comes to advertising.
- It is out of sight. How many people would actually know they are there? During races, cars are parked infront of them.
- Representation. Why would a sponsor want to pay a X amount of cash to have their "ad space" be located in a location that doesn't get many eyes?
Conclusively, I think we need to relocate this ad space to a location where everyone can see it and it gets many, like in web site terms, "hits" every night.
Here are, in my opinion, some better locations for this ad space. This is the easiest way to explain it...
I think putting them along the chainlink fence would be the easiest, it would look great, and everyone would be able to see it. Just a thought.
EDIT: The signs need to be able to be seen from the stands. So the spectators can see them all the time. For example, the ABA nationals have the banners in the infield so they can be seen by everyone.
Another idea I've got; Mr. Gallo, why don't you create a new forum in this category for "Marketing." That would definately make things easier for Curtis.

I agree somewhat with your thoughts on the moto-boards, but with some differences.
First, I think the boards are fairly visible to most visitors to Rad. Yes, it is not ideal, but it is a big space visible from parking, by the bathrooms, etc. Most people at one time or another during the race day travel along this piece of ground.
Second, as I said it is not ideal. But, if you think about the levels of sponsorship and what they get for the money, you'll realize that for the silver and gold level, it is not just the moto-boards. For the gold level, you get one month logo on the trophies, one moto-board for the season, AND logos on the track banners. For the silver, you get the moto-board and track banners. For bronze, you get to share space on track banners.
Another thing about the moto-boards is it also allows some visibility to visitors to the MTB track. Again, not ideal locations, but still visible.
And, as I have been checking for pricing of banners and such, it is very feasable to do full color on everything. A company could go pretty wild with graphics and such to make the boards and banners VERY noticable.
Anyway, I agree with getting the most eyes on every sponsor's ad as possible. But, I don't want the banners to interfere with spectators views, camera shots, or video shots.

I'm just going to throw around some ideas concerning the other places I mentioned for the ad space. Greg, I don't think they would necessarily "interfere."
Fence ad space. Take the, wood right, put holes in the corners of them and then tie or somehow attach them to the fence.
Corners - infield. Now the infield might interfere, but here's my idea. Get some wood post, put them in the ground, and attach the wood to them. The same with the top of the corners. I think you could leave out the second berm now that I think of it. The first and last would be prime spots for these.
Announcer's tower. Attach the wood ad to the outside tower at the level of the floor of the tower... that's a little confusing to explain!
Bleachers. I'm sure you could attach one of those wood ads along the bottom of the bleachers! It would look good and keep stuff from flying under there.

I was talking to Allen at Canyon sports, and he was talking about something like the outreach program. I will talk to him more about how involved he wants to get, he was talking about getting his suppliers to donate bikes for the cause. I will keep you posted, or have Allen get on and make his own coments!

How about some stickers for the back window of cars! An eye catching phrase, followed by ABA, or Utahbmx.com. I don't have the phrase, but I think that we have someone out there that is witty!

I think stickers are a great idea, especially for people with trailers. My family is definietly decaled up with BMX stickers and utahbmx.com stickers, and i actually have had a few kids ask me about it because of it. I think that for parents, it might be a CHEAP, easy way to promote it.
Another stupid idea. Those silly rubber bracelets like the livestrong ones, except for Rad Canyon BMX? Selling those may be able to help us like a fund raiser type thing to help us fix up the 'yard' as its put in the other forum. with a bright color and lots of them to sell (they could be sold in registration. I think I was told a box of 1000 sells for .75 a peice. so thats like what, 75.00?) Sell them for 1-2 dollars and thats a little extra advertising and cash for Rad.
Just a few more ideas.

"An object in motion tends to stay in motion" Let's keep these ideas coming and start doing the research to implement them, we need more participation from the board members in this forum, or we need to schedule a time to meet with them to hammer down some of the unknowns. I'll talk to Ron tonight and see what we can arrange.

Another great remote idea, would be to get someone like Channel 2 News' morning show with Ally, who does remotes pretty much everywhere, to come out and spotlight the track. I'm sure there are many parents who watch the morning news before they head off to work.
