You can get all the computers you want to but........without ALL of the CORRECT information on a registration race form it will still delay registration.

I think everyone did a great job and went far above and beyond any expectations I might have. I am 100% with Mike on this. The Newkirks had more fun this weekend than any race we have attended anywhere..

I think one suggestion is to start with an extra PC and a bar code reader that would read ABA cards. After all, the rules say we have to present them at registration and I know all of ours are always in our super-duper BMX minivan transport machine. There would have to be provisions for people who lost or do not have thier cards (or RLF's), but if we even got 50% participation it would make things a little easier on the volunteers.

I would be happy to help out with setting up a transportable network and finding some good, cheap used PC's. We could do this fairly cheap so tell me 'go' and i'll git er done!

curtis I think that a scanner would really help. because right know if you don't put the right UT number on your registration form then caren has to go into another screen put your last name in and it pulls all the riders up with your last name. Then you have to try and find out what rider is actully racing, I just went into the system and put in brandon smith, It came up with 9 brandon smiths. now try and put a name in like anderson and you have a whole list of names. I'm a firm believer on making things easier, and another problem that there is, if you don't have your ut number on your registation form is that if the computer crashes you need to hand write all those motos, well if you don't have the right ut number on the hand written forms when you snd the motos to the aba, " YOU DON'T GET ANY POINT FOR RACING" so if you wouldn't mined getting me a price what it whould cost to set our system up if would be very greatful thanks, Robert.

You kill me, man! We are all over here trying to figure out a way to make registration more effective and take less time...You're over there taunting the crap out of all of us saying, "we try to make it hard for the registration people so we can have more practice time, races last longer", etc...

Rad may be nonprofit, but Rad is also a business. Businesses have expenses that are driven by needs. If a solid business case can be built out of doing this and the costs are reasonable then funding should not be a problem.

well, I'm no expert on scanners, but I took a quick look at ebay (I know...it's not the ideal way to price things out, but it gives a good idea of what things can be had for), and scanners range from $25 bucks on up (for new). So, as far as money is concerned, it all depends on how picky you are with the equipment. And software, most scanners come with some type of software such as a keyboard wedge which basically just inputs the info like a keyboard would.

There is no magic in the bar code of our ABA cards. It simply is our rider serial number. I'm sure that the ABA's motomaker program is well equiped to handle an input from a scanner to fill in the riders serial number field.

This all somewhat ties in to a subject that I brought up some time back. I think allot of my ideas were taken too literally back then, but what I was driving at was the idea of modernizing the way the tracks conduct their daily business. I feel that we are stuck in the distant past, and things could be soooo much easier on both the track valunteers and the customers. It is just beyond me why a bussiness with probably 70-80% (I'm guessing) repeat customers would not be able to have some type of system in place that allows them to bypass the painfull process of signups.

I hope I don't sound like I think I have all of the answers. But I am more then willing to be involved in brainstorming and coming up with viable solutions that make everyones life easier. I think everyone does an AWESOME job, but that is exactly why I want it to be easier on them. Everyone involved deserves the best.
