Ruff riding or out of control
Ruff riding or out of control
It was a great weekend of racing and I wish there wasn't a lag in December. But here is the question and I hope it doesn't turn into a pissing match. Is riding out of control ruff riding. I watched the videos from Saturday and Sunday there was one age group that was marred by crashes and almost crashes so lets here it
I'm a believer that rubbing is racing! Most everybody that race are "in it to win it" and so moves will be made in tight spots and riders will go down. As long as it is a "clean" move then I have no problem with eating a little dirt. The indoor track is tighter than what the kids are use to riding on in the first place, add the desire to win in there and you have a great recipe for carnage soup.
What age group are you referring to? I know that I took a pretty hard in the main on the very first Friday night race this season (BTW, who was that I tangled with?). I didn't get mad, we both wanted the inside to the first turn and neither one of us were going to back down, so the next thing I knew I was gasping for air and my leg hurt like crap, all while Mackdaddy was teaching me child birth breathing
BMX to me is a contact sport...if I didn't want or expect to get a little dirty, I guess I could enter a checkers tournament instead.

Good point.

Too true.

Couldn't have said it better!
I hate to watch the fast little kids and the older (12-20) inters. Over every jump it seems like they are going to endo!!! Now they are squirrely!

boy, I just watched all of the videos again, I am am really at a loss to come up with ANYTHING that is even close to ruff riding. The only group that had crashes on saturday was the 13X and 36-40 cruisers. This is assuming that you are watching the vids from FLYNHIGH. Again, on Sunday, there were no crashes, but an "almost" crash in 13X. So, I guess I will assume that is the class you are talking about.
Saturday, 13X on the track. First straight...all bunched up...they hit the first turn 5 wide! You cant see what happens exactly from the vid as the berm is in the way, but some riders go down. DAAAA...5 riders wide going HARD into that sweeper.......what do you think will be the outcome??? I guarentee that NONE of these kids hit their brakes! They are all very competitive, all are going for that precious inside line, and are not affraid to rub elbos to get it. Personally, I think this is an amazing class to watch. They are starting to get some serious speed at that age, and right now have a pretty big bunch of riders that are fairly close in ability. It makes for some great racing where 1 foot in front or behind going down that first straight is deciding races. Ruff riding or out of control? I dont think so. Competive and going for the win? Definately!
Sunday, pretty much the same but with less riders. First sweeper sees them going into it pretty closely bunched. As they exit the sweeper, Prawitt tries to hold an inside line and can't hold it, forcing him into Mickenly Wachner's(sp?) back tire. He stays upright but is forced to the outside taking Giles with him in the process. Out of control or ruff riding?? Again, I don't see how you could possibly see it that way.
If I am way off base with my assumption of the class that you were talking about, then sorry about all of that.
Now, if you happen to be talking about the older cruiser class, well Mike Kelley is the only dirty rider I know of. He'll take you out even if he is 10 feet in front of you. He'll just lay his bike down in a turn and grab your wheel as you go by to make sure that you bite it too! Then, if given the chance, stomp on your spokes to break a few just for good measure.
just kidding kids...this behavior is not tolorated, so don't try this at home.

It seemed like good, competative, close, physical, awesome racing to me. No malicious intent, or dirty riding to speak of. I saw the 13 X moto up close. I was sweeping the corner when Spencer did that tire burpin' in the first corner. They were all going for it. The track was tight so contact is more apt to happen indoors.
my 2 cents!

I think that sometimes when someone wants a first place realllly bad like at a national or something, they tend to get a little dirty, because they want to be the best one at the track... But personally, I think if you have to ride dirty just to win, then whats the point? but if you are just very competitive and can really hold your line good then I wouldn't consider it dirty riding. I would just say that they are just very competitive.. But that 13x crash was BIG! I think only 3 people stayed up. But from the angle we were watching at, it looked like one person slid out ono the sweeper and everyone hit him! But yeah.
