I learned a lesson the hard way last night.
I took off from my house w/ my nieghbor Tom at 6pm to ride up the Temple Quarry trail (Little Cottonwood canyon), it gets dark around a 1/4 to 8, & it's takes about 1 1/2 hr. to get to the top of the trail from my house so it was going to be close.
We made good time but by the time I got to the trailhead I was suffering bigtime & had to slow it down some to actually make it to the top. Right past the Boy Scout bridge I was dying but I pressed on, made it past the first hundred yards of rocky sand, then the first of 2 really tech climbs start & I was killing the section. I got past the rocks & had just started in on the smooth section when I lost traction, stalled & tipped over on my right side....hard. I sprained my wrist & got the hip-pointer from hell. I was in alot of pain for about 5 minutes, it was very brutal. I could barely walk but I got back on my bike & rode the last 1/4 mile or so to the top.
Tom was already there & when I came to a stop I tossed my bike down in anger & bitched about my crash. Well, it was darn close to being dark so we got back on our bikes & I went to turn on my headlight & it was broken! The lens & the lamp took off to who knows where when I threw my bike down & now I'm screwed. Parts of the trail are so dark you'd swear you were in a tunnel. I know the trail very good so that helped but going down was pretty knarley. We came out of the trail the parking lot but still had to ride home......in the dark. That was almost as bad as the trail as nobody (cars) can't see you at all. I also almost had a head-on with another cyclist as I was riding the wrong way on the road & didn't see them until it was almost too late.
I ended up with a sprained wrist, a very painful hip-pointer, & a broken 30$ headlight. Soo frazzeled was I, I pounded a 1000mg IB w/ a nattie light, & I NEVER drink on a weeknight!!
Lesson learned, it's NEVER the bikes fault!!

OUCH Bruce. At least you were doing something fun. Justin decided to wrestle with me the other night. Jumped on my back and put it completely out. I've been flat in bed since Sunday. Doc thinks I have a herniated disk. Any ideas for treatment? I go back Monday for x-rays. I've been taking muscle relaxers, Lortabs, and steroids. I walk with my right hip sticking about 6 inches further out than the rest of my body. Anybody have a walker I can borrow? ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
