I absolutely LOVE reading all the different posts here about past (and current) Utah BMX riders. Even though I didn't grow up in this area, it's nice to hear about all the people who helped make Utah BMX into what it is today.

Thank you for taking the time to post !

Wish I could have been there :(

I think Utah bmx needs a hall of fame!! not a top ten. maybe induct three people a year or something. and you have a panel of people plus the hall inductees vote.

just a thought? that way you could have more than ten and I'm sure there are riders who maybe aren't top ten but deserve a pat on the back for putting something into Utah BMX.

What do you all think? TP

I'm all for it!

The particulars would obviously need to be worked out, but if it involves the website I'll be more than happy to create whatever's needed.

This subject is what BMX is all about. Great people, awesome riders and a chance to read more about those BITD. I wasn't around to see Mike Poulson race but I have heard so many awesome stories.

I love the idea about a BMX Hall of Fame. History is important and needs to be remembered and honored.

Jason, Todd, or whoever I am willing to help get this ball rolling. Please let me know what I can do.

Just as my nickname implies, Iv'e been working hard on the years that I missed. I was provided all the ABA mags (after years of hounding) from roughly 1985-1993 & have been flipping through them time to time. I won't have the time to throughly go through them until this winter but I can tell you right now that "My" list has changed somewhat.

Gary Gines was absolutely dominate for years in the late 80's-early 90's with a shot at national titles. A few other riders get a look too.

Iv'e been half-assing a project since 99' that lists all of Utahs #1 riders in the ABA since the ABA has been here, 1979. I believe & have most of the info I need know I just have to put it all together.

Stay tuned.

WOW !!! I didn't think I would run into this on the INTERNET. This is Kevin Roosendaal from the VINTAGE BMX days (1974). I'm proud to say, I raced in the very first BMX race in Utah, which was held in Sandy and organized by the police department (by Gary...can't remember his last name). I think the year was 1974, and the races were held once a year. I can't forget the water pool we had to jump...FUN. Back to the Top 10. I personally know a few of these riders you guys mention, since I used to race against them. Mike Paulson, was my brother's age (Wesley). At that time, Wes used to give Mike a run for his money. But, Mike ended up getting a sponsor with Schwinn, and his talent and speed kicked into another gear. We used to get factory riders to come here. I think the track in Ogden and Provo was part of the national circuit for one or two years. Hmmm, I believe they came to a track in Midvale also, by Hillcrest High School. Anyway, that was many years ago. Ok, here's my thought on the TOP 10 Utah Riders. I would say Mike Paulson for sure was the most successful Utah rider. He was also the most persistent in getting a sponsor. The rest of us didn't really care. Anyway, I am going to say that the fastest rider I've ever seen in Utah was Aaron Davidson. I used race against Aaron back then, no one could beat him. Even the pros that showed up couldn't beat him. Another rider who gave Aaron a run for his money was a kid name Billy Anderson. This kid was sooooo FAST, but never got into the BMX scene. I remember the first ever UTAH BMX race. It was me, Aaron, Billy and a few others. Man, I saw those two just fighting it out as they raced around that track; both extremely fast. Its really too bad that Aaron didn't push the factory ride. I'm sure he had a good reason. Anyway, I miss those days of racing; it was a fun time.
