New UtahBMX Events Calendar!!

Postby J Gallo » Sat Jun 11, 2005 6:41 pm

I've been looking around, and have come across a GREAT web-based calendar to help keep track of all the races going on. And best of all, it's easy to use, navigate, AND you can print out the schedule!! Check it out here:

UtahBMX.com Events Calendar

I'm REALLY interested in any feedback you may have about this calendar. Honestly, it's not free (well it is for 60 days, then I have to pay for it). So if you don't like it, I'll let the trial expire. But if you find it useful, then I'll pony up the cash and keep it!

This calendar will more than likely replace the "Quick Race Calendar" on the bottom left of the UtahBMX.com front page. It's kind of a pain to update, and it's nice to not "cover up" the rider pic with text.

As always, thanks for your support!!

I think the calendar is cool. I especially like the way you can update your own Outlook (and other) calendars. Unfortunately, I work for the state and the state uses Novell Groupwise, but being a computer geek I will figure a way to make it work.

Regarding the costs, I think everybody knows you have a financial commitment in this web site. How about selling a few items like T-shirts, jerseys, calendars, etc to defray the costs. I don't think many users would mind you recouping your costs through a moderate revenue. I know I would not. Put me in line for the first utahbmx.com jersey when you make 'em!

I agree with the guests previous post, you shouldn't have to pony up anything for all of the entertainment you provide.

I have been thinking about this recently anyway, and it seems to kind of fit in with this subject. Have you ever thought about window decals? Just something simple and relatively small to bring more attention to your site and to BMX in general. I know a sign place that makes my plates for near nothing (in my opinion). You could do something like Vintage does with donations, and whoever donates recieves a decal. That might be better then trying to sell them outright. It would be a plus in so may ways.....you get money to help with the site, the site gets more recognition on the street, people that donate can show that they support Utah BMX (status symbol...yea that's right, I gave juice for utahBMX.com <<said with a swagger>>), etc, etc.

I've always wondered why Rad doesn't have decals and such to promote the track more. If they are done tastefully, I'd put it on my truck window.

I've always said that we need to just flood the valley with BMX everything.......if we want better racing, more excitement, higher moto counts, then we need to get the word out about BMX racing.

oops, off topic there abit, but I get pumped up about promotional things.

Anyway, you should do something to help with the financial part of this site.

Oh, and by the way, the calendar is great. I like it.

I think the new calender is great! I'm in Eygpt right now and will be for another month and a half. Once I get home I'll use it!!

Oops - sorry - 'the guest' was me.

I agree with Greg. Maybe one idea is a 'donate' button with the ability to Pay Pal money to you. Or...everybody could just give you a few bucks at the track :)

Thanks guys for the feedback, it's much appreciated.

As far as donations go, I'll be totally honest; I'm uncomfortable accepting straight out donations. I'll never ask for them.

Now, when it comes to selling items, thats another story. I have do have some ideas in the works (obviously the 2006 Calendar, and also a T-shirt) that I hope to have available in the very near future. But like the 2005 Calendars, I'm only hoping to break even.

The financial costs associated with this site are offset in other areas, so that's not really a major concern for me. Plus, I really do enjoy running this site, so accepting money is almost like stealing! :)

I would entertain the possibility for an advertiser to place a logo on the site, specifically the Utah BMX Events Calendar. The cost for the calendar is $40/year, so if anyone would like to pick up that tab, I'll put your logo (with link if I can) on the calendar pages, where the UtahBMX.com logo is now.

As always, thanks for your support, and if anyone has ANY further suggestions or comments, please let me know!

Ok... I need some feedback.

I know it's a "Utah" BMX Events Calendar, but I know quite a few of our local riders travel around to hit races in other nearby states.

So, should I include multi-point races in neighboring states??

Let me know what you think...

Posting neighboring states' multi-points is a great idea!

I'd be happy to sponsor the calendar as well. Also Having surrounding states included would save me a lot of time. Thanks for all you do.
