"No-Clips Open":rules, dates & podium finishes

Postby bnd » Wed Jun 01, 2005 4:35 pm

I'm blown away by the response from the locals here about the no-clips race. It shows the locals are willing to step up to challenges & let it rip.

This started out as a pretty simple thing & I want to keep it simple but I have to lay down a few ground rules.
There has been some discussion about letting cruisers in. I originally wanted to have this 20" only. I figured it would be healthy for that class for guys to start racing those things & feeling comfortable enough to race them full time on a local level. I do understand that a few guys just can't/don't have the $$'s, ect to get on or buy another bike. Mike Kelly says he won't race 20" anymore, Rob Kastelic doesn't have a 20" & so on.

So here's the deal & unless alot of people really doesn't like the rule.....it's sticking.

1. We will run the No-Clips Open as an extra class at the races. DP charges $1 to enter which is a deal to me.

2. You must be 21 years or older & an amatuer to race this Open. No exceptions. If your 17 & want to race, organize your own open.

3. Cruisers will be allowed. It would be nice to see everybody on a 20" but if the only choice you have is a cruiser, we won't keep you out.

4. The top 3 finishers will get their pictures taken after every main, their finishes recorded & picture posted here on Utah BMX.

Dates.
Deseret Peak BMX.

June 11th (RFL).
June 25th.

July 16th
July 30th.

August 20th.
August 27th.

Sept. 10th.
Sept. 17th.
Sept 24th.

This gives us a total of 10 races this summer. I will keep track of who was the most consistant in the mains & hopefully there will some sort of cool prize at the end.

Race #1. 5-28-05. Spencer, Stout, Oblad.

Jason,
I thought about it being 19 & over but the next thing you know 18 yr. olds will want in, then 17 yr. olds & so on. There are a few 19 yr. olds that are smoking fast around here & it wouldn't be fair to the older guys that are making up the majority of the class.

Like I said, if the younger guys want to race on their flats, somebody take the lead & have a "19 & under" no-clips race.

21 & over it stays.

Hey, B. I think we should keep it a 20 inch race or at least make cruiser separate. The reason being that cruisers are a faster bike because of wheel size. Allowing cruisers, IMO, would be trading one advantage for another. That being said, I HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST LAST WEEKEND and am willing to go with the majority. AUDI

Just a reminder people, this weekend at Deseret Peak is #2 in the No-Clips series. $1 to enter. Please abide by the rules posted. It looks like it's going to be a wide open battle for the top 3 podium spots as Spencer, Melton, Stout, & myself are all going to be MIA.
D.J. from Pocatello is 21 & said he is coming down for the event so Utah, step up! The kid is fast!.

Good luck & I'll be looking forward to pic's!
