Legacy BMX SCQ review.

Postby bnd » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:03 am

Friday night was our 1st race of the summer & since I haven't been on any of the tracks I thought I would give my impressions. I'll do the same when I hit up the other local tracks.
- The moto count was 40, the volunteers were stoked with that number as I was told it was the highest moto count so far for an outdoor this year.
- The track was alittle rough around the edges but since it more of a beginner/ intermediate level track, it wasn't bad handling those issues. The track flowed ok, I think with some buffing out & filling in a few obstacles you could really haul butt around it. I saw some really good, head to head racing. I know the volunteers have had to work hard to get the track where it's at. Nice job.
- The older cruiser classes were fun to watch. John Alvey owned that 1st straight. I was really amazed that 41-45 didn't make(!) After doing a head count with the usual suspects, between being gone, moving up age wise, being hurt, the class wasn't there.
- I don't care what peoples take is on why they race, the bottom line is it's all about winning & winning never gets old. I won a main for the 1st time in 2 1/2 yrs. I took the big trophy & I'll autograph it & give it to T.P. next time I see him. (inside joke).
- That 2nd turn took a few racers out in one way or another. Seeing the girls class is just as rough if not rougher than the guys when Chedder went up & over the berm.
- I thought the turnout for "vendors row" was great.
- It was good seeing old faces again but I was totally surprised when OS racer Jon Argyle showed up. He was a player in our cruiser class in the late 90's. One of the lasting memories I have of him is getting into a fight at the 98' or 99' SL National in the gate. A factory rider thought he would just step right into lane one off of the starters box without waiting in line like everyone else. He made the mistake of doing it in front of Jon & the dude got ragdolled off the hill. It was awesome.
- Cote does a great job announcing even though he says he gets stage fright with bigger crowds & thanks for helping out with my kid.
- Did I see Ian try to sneak into that rave that was going on next door?
- We made the mistake of taking I-15 southbound & were stuck in that traffic jam. Got home alittle after midnight.
- The night was fun & I thought the event was pulled off great. The track is fun & is perfect for newbies for sure. The volunteers were very helpful, friendly & timely.
- Track - 3 out of 5 Oakley grips.
- Event - 5 out of 5 Oakley grips.

The State Qualifier at Legacy was awesome! Dave's commentary before the races was excellent, the vendor row was a nice add for the ladies, the track was in its best condition all year, and the Dilleys just rock at making everyone feel welcome and part of the group.

It was a great night!

Thanks for coming out Bruce! We plan to continue to make track improvements through the summer, so come out again when you can. We will also have a full track build, possibly followed by a coating of soil tack in August.

For anyone interested, we will be running practice on Wed night, July 4th. Lagoon does a big fireworks show that night, and if you've been to legacy, you know that our bleachers are facing right at the fireworks show. After practice, we plan to bbq and turn off the lights for the best seats in the county to watch from. Everyone is invited.
