Rider Down
Rider Down
Doug Cheney, 41 & Over Intermediate, went down hard in the 2nd round qualifier race on Sunday.
He managed to save the bike by placing his body between it and the ground.
At last count he has 5 broken ribs, 1 punctured lung and a collar bone in way too many pieces. The bike did get a little dirty.
He's currently testing the limits of pain medication at Ogden Regional Hospital (801.479.2111) where the cat scan took his cell phone out of commision. I think the bike's hiding out at Kevin Dilley's house, afraid to go home.
Doug is a great guy, a great racer and a true COG.
Please send some positive thoughts his way!

Ever since moving into this class we have had many good battles sparring for position. Best wishes, Doug, for a full and speedy recovery.

Doug is a great guy. He's kinda quiet so you may not have spoken with him but his riding speaks volumes. Wishing you all the best, Doug! Heal up quickly and completely!
Re: Rider Down
Definitely a great guy. Hard to hear about such harsh injuries. Doug just had a setback in the spring with a broken elbow and wrist I believe. He was really starting to come back as a strong contender. Best wishes to him and his, and most definitely a speedy full recovery.

Re: Rider Down
Doug has been around since as long as I can remember, the early-mid 80's. It just sucks reading about this kind of stuff. Doug was really getting fast this winter too, looking like his old self. The indoor scene really took a toll it seems this season on the older crowd.
Get well soon Doug.

Re: Rider Down
I can report that Doug is as comfortable as possible right now. will have to spend the next few day days in the hospital to make sure everything is healing up.."LUNG" most important right now. after that it will be painful getting the ribs to heal as they broke in the back!!! collar bone will have to wait for now. He has assured me we will see him back out at the track, but might have a wrench in his hand instead of a handle bar grip...
Best wishes Doug get well soon....
