Re: App idea
Did the app have anything to do with last night's late moto postings? I wasn't there, I just heard it was a late night. Glad to hear it's working, that's great news.

Nope, not one bit. I played tech support with the ABA for a bit... The track got new computers running windows 7. The moto maker software has some issues with Win7 (they're making a new program from the ground up but it's delayed). There was also a little but of database corruption and people's names weren't printing on the moto sheets but after looking into it they were in the database and registered for the race. It was more of a perfect storm that all hit at once. The Meltons spent considerable time in the phone today with the ABA and got many things resolved. Today seemed to go much more smoothly but of course there were a lot of riders to add due to it being the Race For Life. 66 motos.

I'm glad we've got so many people that know their way around computers to get this working. Looking forward to trying it at the next race.

Re: App idea
We have the moto posting on the Internet working so everyone can view on their cell phones. Big thanks to all who have provided their imput and direction to get this going. And a huge huge thanks to Jason Gallo for the behind the scenes website programming! Without him it would still be an idea!
Re: App idea
Sure was nice to have the Motos on My phone today!
BIG Thanks to all those that made it happen!

Re: App idea
Having Motos on my phone was sweet this weekend! I had another thought. Do you think it would be possible to have a notify function set up so when new motos were posted to the web then you could get an email?
Friday night, there were 2 reposts and alot of us didnt hear an announcement about a 2nd repost. It made staging a little chaotic while everyone figured out what was going on.

Thanks to all who have made this innovation possible. Personally, I don't own a smart phone, but it sure made looking at the posted moto sheets much easier More importantly, it shows once again that Utah BMX is on the cutting edge of our sport.
Any though of having on-line pre-registration (like they do at nationals) for races???

Thanks to Brandon for bringing this up and to Gallo for making it work.
As for the notification... Gallo, what do you think? The solution in its current state isn't very fancy at all... motos finalized, printed (hardcopy for hanging on the wall), printed to PDF, uploaded to a directory on the http server... could an agent run on the server that says "if new file uploaded, send email to list of addresses"?

Heh, thanks for noticing
To get it up and running this quick, I kept it very simple to mainly do some testing this weekend. It really wasn't meant to be final. I'll be working on some tweaks behind the scenes before this is really 100%. And I have the instructions on how the ABA does it, which is a "live" moto environment, so there is no PDF downloading. However, it requires installing and setting up a web server, and for people to connect to the private network to view the motos. Much more involved than the current process.

Absolutely. Of course that would require each person to register their email address which has its own issues, but that is an easy thing to program.
Please keep the suggestions coming and we'll continue to get this tweaked until it totally rocks!

I didn't mean to minimize it, and I think it works great! I actually like it BETTER than the way the ABA -- um, USA BMX -- does it. It's easier to scroll through the PDF than using the drop downs the way the ABA has it. I'd honestly recommend that you don't change it.

see. more involved. more infrastructure. more complicated. more areas for problems.

HAHA, I know. Was just giving you a hard time.
I've always been about "function" over "form". My stuff won't be the fanciest out there, but I work to make sure it functions quickly and properly. So I take the "not that fancy" as a compliment
Hopefully this feature is just as easy on the track side with printing the PDF file and uploading. I tried to keep it simple as the more complicated it gets, the more problems you will run into. Plus, I didn't want to put any more pressure and add to the work load of our great track volunteers.

Jason has been doing the uploading so I'm not sure exactly how you're having that part of it work. I should have him show me though, so I can be a backup for that process. And I agree, moto posting time is stressful enough for the "moto ladies". Keeping it simple is key.
