New Site Design is on the way!

Postby J Gallo » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:39 pm

For the last month, I've been working on a makeover for the UtahBMX.com site. Currently about 50% done but its starting to come together a little more quickly now so might be ready in a couple weeks.

Always interested in any comments or suggestions about the site you may have; things you like, dislike, or would like to see added.

Thanks for your support!

I'd love to be able to embed youtube videos into threads.

Will you be upgrading to new software, or just changing the look & feel?

You mean embed youtube videos like this:

I just added a "youtube" BBCode button. Here is how to embed:

From the YouTube site, you should see a URL address at the top of the browser that looks like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTyOiVSZyz8

Copy the whole URL address.

Then when you are creating a post, click the "youtube" BBCode button (should be the last button on the right) and enter that URL address between the tags. Done!

Generally just look and feel, but the forums will remain as the PHPBB program. I'm going to work on integrating the forums into the site more so ties into the site more closely, but that will be down the road.

One thing that will be added to the site is a "How to BMX" guide. I don't have all the details worked out yet, but would like it to be a resource for information about BMX racing in general, and how to get started in the sport.

How about optimizing the forum for handheld devices? Many forums automatically detect users with handheld and auto optimize accordingly.

I "like" you too Brent! i'll work that into the site :)

What type of device do you have? There is an iPhone app that works great called TouchBB. I've been using it for awhile and makes viewing/posting from my iPhone very easy. I'll look into other options for the PHPBB board system that make the forums more mobile friendly.

I still have a "web app" version of the site under development. I started working on it (and posted about it) but it didn't seem like there was much interest so I moved onto other projects. Once the site redesign is complete I plan on circling back to this project at some point.

I've got a android. I did some looking for apps, none were free, so I had left it at that. It's not a big deal, just a nice feature. I appreciate the work you do on this site.

My android typically seems to work better on the "non-mobile" versions of sites. i can view it just fine on my android.
