Hello fellow Utah BMXer's
As many of you may know we are preparing to pave our third turn at Rad Canyon to complete our berm asphalt project. We have been very pleased with the results of the first two turns being paved and it seems to be a hit with most of the racers. The asphalt has nearly eliminated maintenence and weather damage while improving traction, speed and overall racing on the track.
The materials and professional labor to complete the project are very costly and last year we were fortunate to have many locals dig deep to help subsidize the paving. Knowing that times are tough for many we dont want to run back to the same 'well', so to speak, this year we plan to utilize the moneys raised from the parking fees from the Great Salt Lake National. For this we are in search of a group of volunteers who would be willing to donate their time to help with the parking duties (gate, cashier, attendants and clean up) during this years national. If there are enough people who can participate it would just be a few hours each day to help with a very worthy cause.
If you are willing or know of somebody who is please have them contact Ron Melton (801-699-9575) or myself (801-864-2577)
Thank you in advance,
Steve

Re: Third Turn Project - Rad Canyon
I don't usually post anything but felt this was important. Many of the racers want to see the third turn paved. Tracy Snow and I have been talking and preparing for the Great Salt Lake National. For the past few years we have gotten a non-profit group to handle the parking for the national along with cleaning up after the national and we have split the income from the parking fees with them. We thought that it would be a good idea to see if you, the parents of racers and friends of racers, would be interested in volunteering to help with the parking at the national and keep the money we would give to another organization this year. That money would be used to help pay for paving the third turn. This would be a way for you to help "pay it forward" for future bmxers. We will need about 40 people who will work in 2 hour shifts for the 3 days of the national...4 at the gate taking money and giving passes and four at the bottom directing parking. We can do this if enough of you will volunteer. I will put together a schedule if we can get enough to volunteer.
Many of you are new to BMX and may not realize that Rad Canyon BMX is a non-profit organization. All funds collected for your entry fees and practice fees goes back into the program at Rad.....bigger trophies than are given at other tracks, trophies given to young novice riders in large classes who don't make the main, paving of the turns, new gate, maintenance, etc. There are no paid employees at Rad Canyon. Our family has always had a passion for BMX. I hope we can count on some of you to volunteer to help with this project.

Re: Third Turn Project - Rad Canyon
Wow! I am pretty bummed at the response to our call for assistance. In the week since we first posted up the request for help WE HAVE RECEIVED ONLY ONE PHONE CALL
I know that that nationals are a hectic time but if we could get a list of families or individuals who are willing to donate a two hour block of their time over the weekend it would be hugely appreciated. If we cannot locate volunteers we will have to go back to paying for a group to do it and we will lose out on the funds for the the paving of the last turn.
Come on Utah BMXers... lets rally together!

Wow, i'm shocked that you guys have only gotten that kind of response. RC over the years have given thousands if not 10's of thousands to charities, now they are looking for some support & they only get one phone call?? I would hope after a few races are held & the word spreads & the volunteers step up & help out.
Steve, since I don't race our national anymore I would be MORE than happy to help but unfortunatly I will be in Minnesota on vacation, good luck.
