Stu who?-Steve Spencer.....Gotta ? for you.
Steve Spencer-
How did it feel racing ol' Stu Thompson?
Did that mess up your nag points or anything?
So what was it like from the helmet view?
Congrats to all the Utah riders! Way to represent!

Just wondering if anyone knows the final moto counts for saturday and sunday?
I tried to listen to the racing on Saturday, but there was ALOT of static and made it difficult to hear anything. I think I heard there were 276 moto's on saturday?

Hello all!
Back from a LONG week in Cali' and I am glad to be home.
Gallo,
If I remember correctly, the moto counts were 276 Saturday and 244 Sunday.
Stout,
It was wild to see Stu out front. Both Saturday and Sundays class mains were crazy. Saturday, Chrisco was leading going into turn two and Dipaulo took him out causing a big ball up and Stu came out first. Sunday, Chrisco looped out over the first jump taking me down with him causing everybody to swing wide and Stu, again, came away with the victory. There was a bit of an upheaval over his return to racing as an amateur when he just raced Vet Pro a year or so ago coupled with his prior history as a top AA pro.
The track conditions were less than desirable with the history making rain on Wednesday before the race. We built the track in two days (Monday & Tuesday) so to prepare for the ensuing rain. What made things worse was that the drain in the floor of the arena relied on the tide of the ocean. During high tides, the drain was not functional, resulting in the 18" of water standing in the arena Wednesday. The ABA crew worked their tails off to get the track ridable. The gang worked 15+ hour days. With all the soft spots one lap around the track felt like doing two laps. And if you happen to take the wrong line, you wouldl stick your front tire into a bog and go over the bars or just come to a stop. It was very tough and frustratng at times but the Utah crew made the best of it and we had a good time together. Congrats to Heather Allred for winning cruiser both days. That should put her on top of her NAG standings going into the Grands. Oen of the best races of the weekend was Cody Kelly's come back in one of his moto's where he blew a clip down the first straight and was nearly a half-a-straight behind the lead riders before he got going againg and charged all the way back to nearly pass the riders for a transfer spot. Cody never gave up and rode his heart out all weekend.
I am sure the rest of the Utards will post up when they get home.
Great job by all!!!
Steve

Delmar....it's me Pete! (Name that movie....)
I read a lot of reports about the track on Vintage over the weekend. I can't believe the ABA crew and all of their hard work. Literally holding back the ocean is no small task. That is admirable.
On of the guys on vintage said something like, "this weekend, you had to decide if you love BMX or just on sunny days when the track is smooth and hard." I guess the racing really was a battle of wit and grit all weekend. With the lower moto count on Sunday, there seems to be a few that are fair weather fans.
Kudos to the Utah crew for all of their fantastic finishes, and for sticking out the weather!
As far as Stu goes....What a strange time of year to come back. I think anyone "that good" should head back to Vet Pro where he came from so can get some competition. (Hey- I just turned the big 30 this week....maybe I could be a Vet... erinarian.. assistant...or something like that...)
I'm looking forward to seeing you all again at the indoor races.

We had loads of fun. Big kudos to Steve & the rest of the track crew on Friday for getting the track drained and repaired. It was a big mess when we showed up Friday.
This was Bennetts first ABA National and the first one I have been to in over 20 years. It was simply amazing to see 2000 or so racers and all of the excitement. We are even contemplating the Grands in Tulsa although after paying big bucks for gas in CA we may have to shake the piggy bank. I did win a pretty cool GT MTB courtesy of GT & Hyundai so that helped to offset the $ a bit
Bennett learned a lot although I don't think he quite understands how well he did. In his mind, he finished 7th on Sunday and that was just not good enough for him. On Saturday the noise was so loud that Bennett did not even hear the cadence in his semi's and the gate dropped with him still sitting down. Oops! No main for you kiddo! The competition was tremendous and I was very proud of his performance both days.
Great fun was had and I will bet it will take us a week to recover.
