Races/ABA Nationals, then select "Upcoming Races" from the drop down...

Since I want to try to make a couple Nat's this year, I guess I need to try to make some plans...

Hey, Grand Junction, CO has a National. Is that new for them?

So, who's hitting what?

I have to run this past the boss but here's what I'm thinking could be possibilities:
January 09 - 11 Silver Dollar Nationals - PRO Series Reno, NV Reno Livestock and Event Center INDOOR
January 23 - 25 Sooner Nationals - UCI / PRO Series Guthrie, OK Lazy E Arena - INDOOR
:?: February 06 - 08 So Cal Nationals - UCI / PRO Series Perris, CA Lake Perris BMX

March 20 - 22 Super Nationals - UCI Desoto, TX METROPLEX BMX
March 21 - 21 USA Cycling National Championship - USAC Desoto, TX METROPLEX BMX
April 03 - 05 Great Northwest Nationals Redmond, OR Hooker Creek Event Center - INDOOR
April 17 - 19 Cajun Nationals Gonzalez, LA Lamar Dixon Expo Center - INDOOR
May 01 - 03 U.S. Nationals - PRO Series Bakersfield, CA METRO BMX
May 15 - 17 Dixieland Nationals Powder Springs, GA Cobb County BMX
May 22 - 24 Spring Nationals Albuquerque, NM Duke City BMX
May 29 - 31 Mid America Nationals Blue Springs, MO Blue Springs BMX

August 07 - 09 Southwest Nationals Tucson, AZ Tucson Convention Center - INDOOR

Both? Or one? If one, which?

Does anyone know what the UCI designation is for? Is it pros only, or a way for ams to qualify for worlds??

At least we're close to 4 nationals instead of 3 (if Reno in the winter counts as close)

Justin,

The UCI designation is for races that will hold a separate event for those trying to get UCI Elite points. You do not have to be Pro, meaning an Am can race, they just need to be 17 by Dec 31, 2009 (I believe).

The only exception to this will be the USAC National Championship in DeSoto. That race will allow Challenge riders (anyone non-Elite) a shot at racing in the UCI Nat'l Champ Main and earning a spot on the Worlds team, a USA Jersey (for the winner, a medal (top 3), or any combo of the above. We went this year and it was fun. The format was: Fri - Nat #1, Sat UCI, Sun - Nat #2. The UCI Race is age group only, meaning you race the age you are by Dec 31 of that year. The UCI race was also fairly small at about half the moto count of the Nat 1 & 2 races. In 2009, if you want to go to the Worlds, this is the way.

The rest of the races should be all the same for the ABA Nationals. There are still a few questions the ABA has yet to answer, but I think it will be business as usual.

So with the UCI races on the same weekend, does anyone know if ABA is changing to a UCI gate cadence?

Justin,
They will be using the random gate cadence for the UCI race only. The Friday prerace and Sunday ABA national will be the ABA cadence.

Dont expect the ABA to make the jump to the random gate in 2008 as there are a lot of tracks around the country who have invested a lot of money into the ABA cadence system and to make the change to the UCI random gate would be a financial strain for most tracks.

Hopefully this will answer most everyones questions, if not post your questions here and Shannon or I will respond.

Chandler, AZ – The American Bicycle Association has been awarded the 8 UCI Continental events for North America, which will be held in conjunction with the following ABA National events:

2008-09 UCI North American BMX Continental Calendar:

Jan. 23-25: ABA Sooner Nationals, Guthrie, Ok. (USA)
Feb. 6-8: ABA So Cal Nationals, Perris, Calif. (USA)
Feb. 20-22: ABA Gator Nationals, Oldsmar, Fla. (USA)
Mar 6-8: ABA Winter Nationals, Phoenix, Ariz. (USA)
Mar. 20-22: ABA Super Nationals, Desoto, Texas (USA)
June 12-14: ABA First State Nationals, Milford, Del. (USA)
June 19-21: ABA Mid west Nationals, Rockford, Ill. (USA)
March 21: 2009 USA Cycling BMX National Championships, Desoto, Texas

UCI events will be held on the Saturday of each of the above events with the exception of the March 20-22 Super Nationals in Desoto, TX this event will consist of a UCI event on Friday and Sunday and the USA Cycling BMX National Championships on Saturday. The USA Cycling BMX National Championships will be run under UCI rules and UCI classes. However for the USA Cycling BMX National Championships the ABA will be awarding all amateur participants quadruple expert district points in addition to the USA Cycling BMX National Championships jersey to all class winners.

The UCI events will not affect any amateur riders unless they will be 17 years or older by December 31st of 2009. If a rider will be 17 years or older by December 31st of 2009 they will be able to race in two classes at the UCI events which would be their current ABA class and either men or women Junior Elite or Elite. (example: 17 expert and Junior men). Their will be no pro level competition on the UCI days, so current A Pro’s, AA Pro’s or Girl Pro’s who will not be 17 years or older by December 31st of 2009 will not be able to race on the UCI days. (example; a 16 year old Girl Pro will not have class to race)

At all UCI events (Saturday Only) Vet pro’s will only be allowed to race in the Elite Men class.

UCI classes are as follows; (age as of December 31st 2009)

Junior Elite Men (17 and 18 year old men)
Junior Elite Women (17 and 18 year old women)
Elite Men (19 and older men)
Elite Women (19 and older women)

For amateurs 17 and older who do not wish to participate in the UCI events will be able to race in the class that they would normally race in at any ABA event.

All UCI events will consist of the following;

Friday - Pre-race (ABA Double Points)

Saturday - Day #1 National (ABA National Points for all amateurs) and (UCI points for
Junior and Elite)

Sunday - Day #2 National (ABA National Points for all amateurs and ABA Pro points)

The exception to the above schedule of events is the USA Cycling BMX National Championships in Desoto, TX which will have the following schedule of events;

Friday - Day #1 National (ABA National Points for all amateurs) and (UCI points for Junior
and Elite)

Saturday - USA Cycling BMX National Championships (UCI rules and UCI classes) and
(Quadruple ABA district points, all classes will receive expert points) no novice and
intermediate classes for this event.

Sunday - Day #2 National (ABA National Points for all amateurs) and (UCI points for
Junior and Elite)

All UCI Pro events for 2009 will run under the UCI random cadence and this will include all ABA pro events as well. This will include A Pro, AA Pro, Vet Pro, Women Pro and Pro Cruiser.

All ABA amateurs will run under the normal ABA cadence, with the exception of the USAC National Championships which will be run under the UCI random gate.

Any amateur rider who wishes to attend the UCI World Championships must attend the USAC National Championship event in Desoto, TX and finish in the top 16 in their respective class. If 16 riders or less sign up for any one class all riders who registered will be qualified. If more than 16 riders are registered, only riders who qualify to the semi will be eligible for the UCI World Championships.

All Elite and Junior Elite riders must have a USAC membership. Once a rider signs up for an Elite or Junior Elite race he/she is now designated as such and must race that level of competition at the USAC National Championships as well as the UCI World Championships.

No amateur riders will be required to purchase a USAC license unless they are qualified and plan on attending the UCI World Championships.

For an amateur rider to be eligible to compete in the USAC National Championships they must provide proof of US citizenship (birth certificate or passport). All US BMX licenses will be honored at this event, no USAC or UCI license is required.

For team competition during UCI events a team may use a rostered rider in any of the UCI classes Junior Elite Men, Junior Elite Women, Elite Men and Elite Women.

Cool!!! I guess we'll have to start looking for the "Get Worked Down Under Travel Plan" from some place like Morris Travel! Only $10,000 per double occupancy at the Sydney Motel 6 and Denny's meals all inclusive! I bet Roy is already looking! Please let us know what you find out.

Maybe once obama is elected, we'll get some wealth redistributed our way so we could afford such a venture!

Seriously though, good luck to anyone looking to compete at the Worlds!!!

Who's ready to start planning for Reno, Jan 9 - 11?

Where have you guys stayed in the past? The Motel 6 that's walking distance from the arena?

Mappity Map.

Or do you pick a place that has "activities" for the grown-ups and kids?

Most people I have talked to are staying at the Grand Sierra Resort. I had reservations at The Atlantis which is another nice property for $ 180 for three nights, but after talking to Adam Campbell ( thanks for the info ) and my son Chantz I decided to switch to GSR. The kid wanted to be with everyone else. HOTELS.COM - $157 ( $ 52.33 per night ) for three nights for the upgraded room to get two queens. I believe Adam got his for $ 39 a night. The motel 6 at walking distance is ok if it isn't sub-zero temps.

With our first FUN as ever year of BMX under our belt & only attending the Nationals at Rad Canyon. Can we get some feedback fom anyone that has attended and anyone who is going to attend the Reno races. My boy is in the 7 novice group and has 1 more win to move up, at the same time he will turn 8 after the Nationals in Reno. Figured it would be a fun Birthday present for the 2 of us to go out and enjoy.

#1 Is it worth the drive out and back, do they put on a nice race ?
#2 Approx how many moto's ?
#3 Appreciate the info shared on accomodations, how about security of things while there ?

Thanks in advance for any information

We're in a similar situation... we have just barely more than one full season and this will be our first national out of town... I booked at the Grand Sierra Resort for about $31/night. I'm excited! I don't have answers for the rest of your questions. :D
