Old sCool Utah BMX!!
Please Keep the old school Pics & stories comming!!!! These are great, Brings back alot of memories....?? Remember all the Tracks that were around in the 80's? Ogden 4th (Downhill!! Yeah!!), Hillcrest, Old Riverview, Provo, Park city, Indoor at the fairgrounds (concrete with wooden jumps), Jordan river BMX on North Redwood Rd. (not open for too long) and I even remember a track that was raced on a few times just off the west side of I-15 (By the prison in Draper). You could also go practice on them any time of the day you wanted, when there was not a race. (open practice 24/7) Before the days of lawsuits going wild. There was also a race somewhere within a 50 mile range, EVERY DAY! (sometimes two to three a day) These were awesome times in history for the ones who can remember them, and a great BMX history lesson for the ones too young to have been there. I miss the day's when we had quarters and semis on a weekly basis, and also a local Pro class that raced on a weekly basis when not out of town at a National or some other race. Remember Glen Adams, Mike Poulsen, Mitch Bennet, Bill Brizink? (Sorry Bill, I know I prob. spelled it wrong) Please dig out all the old pics. and post them!! Also any picks of old bikes would be cool too. Also does anybody know anything about getting the Ogden 4th St. track going again? Heard some rumors, and this would be great to expand racing into the ogden area. Also Anybody thought about talking to parks and rec. about putting a track at the Jordan river raceway by North end of I-215, By Motocross tracks?? Just a thought?? Great day to all!! H.

The Dodds ran a track at the Jordan river racepark in the late 90's early 00"s. It was the last track I raced at with a magnetic gate release. You had to raise the gate manually. So gate practice was limited. They eventually got a modern gate which is now spread out all over. I don't remember why it closed down, probably lack of interest??? I see Lonnie & Tammy once in a while when they come in to buy truck parts from me.
The first version had a "Fuzzy hill" right out of the gate. It seems like it was as big as Rad's starting hill, but it got changed to a more useable obstacle.

There were actually 2 Jordan River BMX's. One was on Redwood Road and about 12th North or so back in the hayday of Harpers/Riverview/Twin Peaks. It had a huge starting hill and a pro section that had a 10 foot deep hole filled with water/mud. The 2nd Jordan River was the one at the Moto track in the ATV park.
There was also a Park City track at one point. Ogden's old downhill bmx track was fun. The USBA actually held their national championships there one year.
