Ok, I need to make this short, but WOW what a great weekend of racing in Davis County. The facility was great, and the people running it seemed to want to accommodate us at every turn. The way the arena was set up allowed people to mill together, and spots above the stands were great to set up the webcast and not be overpowered by ambient noise.
I heard Friday alone brought out 40 new riders. And it was definitely evident on the moto sheet into Saturday and Sunday as it seemed every moto had its share of new members! And the racing was top notch! Most every class was close racing, the the Pro-Am on Sunday was extremely exciting (congrats to Christian Martinez on the win!).
Another thing that went well from my side was the webcast, and some test recordings. I got a great signal in the arena, and both Saturday and Sunday went off without any dropouts (that I know of) of the webcast. I heard the audio was a little "echo-y", and being a little higher meant less visibility of the riders, but overall I think it went okay. Also, on Sunday morning, I did some testing of recording from the webcam as a test. I was able to record directly to my hard drive, which is HUGE, so I don't have to download and convert video from a camera to post on the web. I think this will be a great way to record the races (motos and mains) then add the video INSTANTLY to the site. Well, pretty close to instant; just the time it takes to upload to the server. To check out my test vid's, here are the links (keep in mind this is with a cheap webcam, when I do it for real, it will be with a regular video camera).

Let me know what you think. Unfortunately, I can't webcast and record at the same time, so it might be one or the other unless I bring out another computer to record to.
And a HUGE tip of the hat to all the volunteers that spent so much time making this weekend great! I know a ton of people put alot of time, and will continue to do so this week and next weekend, and just know how much I appreciate your efforts! We wouldn't have such a great local race scene without you! We are definitely the envy of just about every state!
Anyone, I'd like to hear some thoughts from others, especially any of our new riders and/or families that came out to race this weekend. Feel free to post up your stories!

I talked to Steve her husband a few hours ago. She is really sore. Her neck and back are hurting her today and the jury is still out on the status of her shoulder, she didnt break anything but there is likely some tearing and she has to go to a specialist.
Her daughter and husband might be at the clinic tonight. Her daughter was in the gate when she crashed and made her first main in her first race in the 5U novice. Steve stayed around long enough to watch her run in the main and rush to meet Anne at the hospital.
I will let them know you asked how she is doing.[/u]

To add to the "good" and the "heck yeah!".... I just heard there were 61 riders at tonights clinic, mostly youngsters. This is great!
Thank you Melton's, Kelley's, The Maverick and Jord-O Smith for putting on the clinic and working with the kids. I am sure a great impression was made and a positive impact will be seen in a number of new riders coming out.

What is going on there this weekend?
Since i had a heart attack almost two weeks ago I have been out of the loop. I am getting better and my doctor told me I would be back on my bike in a few weeks, just got to start slow when I start riding again.

The clinic was really cool. The Meltons did a great job. Itwas fun seeing that many new little kids out riding and having a ton of fun doing it. There were enough 5,6,and 7 year olds, that if only half of them sign up, we will end up with semi's in all three of those novice classes.
I think having a track up here would really help to grow the sport and would likely boost the moto counts at both Rad Canyon and DP.

Sounds like the first week of the Davis County Indoor was a huge success...CONGRATS! Hopefully Davis County and the Fair Park Manager have a better insight and understanding of what myself and a few others presented to them almost 2 years ago?
Rumor has it an outdoor track is being talked. That would be awesome! No more 100 mile round trip races on weeknights
JAlvey - You probably know I have been trying to get a track started in Davis or Weber Counties since I returned from Korea in 2005. It's been very exhausting and frankly I'm tired of being turned down because too many bridges were burned in the past. I really hope Rad Canyon and Davis County can work together and we have an outdoor track up North within the near future.
See you at the races!
