What a night!!
Ever since this was announced a few months ago I was licking my chops to go see to one of my favorite bands (Priest) & my all-time fav metal band Anthrax. The time came tonight & it was probebly the best night of my life this year for alot of different reasons.
We hooked up with my buddy Dave an hour before the concert at Applebees, ate dinner & enjoyed a few brewskies. I also met, for the first time a niece that iv'e never met (long story). 17 years old & very charming, pretty cool in the end.
The turnout was embarassing to say the least, I would say 3-4000 people showed for this killer show while the venue holds 12,000. They fill this place for WWE events but its a 1/4 full for a great concert!? WTF?
None the less we had great seats & noticed we were actually in our element, age wise with the rest of the crowd which was nice.
Anthrax.............they start the show just like they did in 88', to the opening music of the Blues Brothers then proceed to blow the Fricking roof off the place. They absolutly kicked some *** & took some names. Belladonna sounded great & the band was tight. They tore through most of there older hits with N.F.L. & Indians back to back which was f'king incredible. Their set list was great but since they weren't headlining, they had to leave alot off the list. These guys had me banging my head, jumping around & had me acting like I was 21 again. Last time I saw them was in 91' & it looked like they haven't missed a beat. I can't say enough about this band, they are no doubt the kings of heavy metal thrash, bar none. They ended up with "I'm the man" & "I am the Law". Un-freaking-belivable!!!!
I was a sweating mess after they left the stage. If they would of had a mosh pit, I would of been in it tearing it up, no doubt.
After a short break Judas Priest started up with the "Hellion/Electric Eye" song. The intro was great just like 82'. The band was tight, Rob Halfords voice is still one of the best around, he hasn't missed a beat. Priest was good but here was the problem with them, they would sing a few older hits then lobb in a few new ones or obscure ones that most of the crowd really didn't know & after awhile it took the excitment out of the crowd. Beginning of the concert was great, then it died down for awhile then when they finally came with "Victim of Changes" the crowd got back into it.
It's funny, this is the 4th time Iv'e seen Priest & yeah, they still kick butt & all but it's just like seeing KISS, they do the same stuff every time you see them. Would I pay to see them again? Probebly not. Would I pay to see Anthrax again? Absolutly, I would even TRAVEL to say Vegas to see them again. Hopefully headline.
Between sets my buddy Dave went to the bathroom & look what the cat drags in, my old racing buddy Mike who I haven't seen in 10 years! He says he still has all his gear & his sweet white P.K. to boot. I flowed him my number & it won't be long before he's racing again if I have anything to say about it! Awesome moment #10 tonight!!
This night was definatly a night I'll remember for a long, long time for sure. PLUS, I don't have to go into work at regular time tomorrow so I get to sleep in somewhat, happy days!!
