Little Guy Action

Wow! Watching Billy and Bennett race is amazing! I am not sure if everyone is watching what is going on, but this is 'slicin' and dicin', bar-to-bar action at its finest (granted, I am a little biased). These two kids give it thier all around that track and it is a great matchup. Watching them fly out of the gate and run wheel to wheel down the first straight is truly a sight to be seen.
Then we have newcomer to the Inter ranks, Wesley Eglintine who also just turned five. He is doing excellent and is not too far off the B&B train when he gets pushed up to the Expert class. Give him a few months and he will be dicing it with the big guys.
But there appears to be a problem: There seem to be fewer and fewer kids in the novice and intermediate classes this year. Last year there were some races that had two racks of 5 & Under novices and they almost always had five to eight riders. Yesterdays Rad race played out like this: There were a total of six riders age 6 or under. Two were Ex, one Inter, & three novices which split into a 5 & Under Novice class and a 6 Expert class. This seems to be the usual for this year. If we talk about creating the future BMX champions in Utah, this is where is starts - filling those holes in the little-guy ranks.
I know it is early in the year and attendance will likely build - especially in the Novice ranks, but we need to get some more little guys out there. In particular, I can think of lots of very talented kids that raced over the last year that we just don't see any more. They moved up, racing got tough, and they just quit. I am gonna be picking up the phone this week and see what I can do on my end. If any of you know some of the little guys who have dropped, let them know they have a whole new field and racing is underway!
