Have you found any pics of ol' Eric Nikoliasen yet? I heard he was really good back in the 80's.

bruce, what ever happened to a kid by the name of ryan pool ? I remember he was one of the top young rider back in the 80's, mark fegley, and some of those riders that used to race out at riverside park or the collisium?

Ryan Pool is now a real estate agent I believe. I think Kevin Sleater can get ahold of him. Mark Fegley, now there's a name I haven't heard in 20 years, I can picture him now. I have no idea what happened to him.

That shot of Steve is too cool. The photographer had an amazing camera angle. It almost looks as if he fell from an airplane. Where was that shot?

Mike Poulson, Utah #1, BMXA, Feb. 1982.
Curtis, Steve could fill you in on all the details surrounding this photo shoot, it's pretty cool.

Thanks for posting up the pic' Bruce! It is hard to believe that was nearly 16 years ago!!!
Here are some facts surrounding the photo:
- Location: Norco/Snipes track in Corona, CA. The track is downhill and the first turn was LONG and FAST. It lead to the jump we were hitting in the second straight (a 25' long table wih a step down landing).
- Who was there? Tim "Fuzzy" Hall, Chris "Mad Dog" Moeller (owner of S&M Bikes), Eddie Buckley and Spike Jonze.
- Gork (the editor of BMX Action magazine at the time, now the BMX big wig at Redline bicycles) asked me if I wanted to be the "model". I was stoked.
- The photgrapher was Spike Jonze. For those of you not in the know, Spike is BIG TIME now. He has directed the Beastie Boys "Sabotage" and Weezer's "Just Like Buddy Holly" videos, directed and acted in a few movies ("Being John Malkovich" , "Three Kings", "Adaptation", "JackAss"). He is also married to director Sofia Coppola (daughter of the famous director/producer Francis Ford Coppola)
- We were jumping over Spike and he was holding his camera up in the air underneath us taking the shots. I was probably 8 to 9 feet in the air in the shot.
Thanks for the memories!
Steve

LOL. So Spike Jonez shot that. Go figure because I think it is one of the top BMX shots I have seen.
Peep the Kevlar Tuff-Wheels on Poulsens' ride. Also, if you look closely, he is using a forged cro-mo one-piece crank. Kind of an unusual spec. I know I ran Flites starting in about '79 - '80. Had it not been for the Flites I would probably have run a forged one-piece as well. Remember how shoddy most of the Al cranks were back then?

Cool pics B! You'll laugh at this! When that very pic of Poulson came out, I had just got my first set of graphite tuff wheels to put on my sting! Cool pic of Steve! It's the only time I get to see the front of him! LOL. Love the Old School! Keep it coming, B!
