Attention older riders. Info you need to read.

Some of you have heard about what happened to 41-45 cruiser racer Ken Nork from Illinois in Reno, most haven't, he went down in one of his crusier motos in a corner, severely injured his spinal cord & suffered other injuries. Here is the story from Vintage BMX.com.

http://www.vintagebmx.com/community/ind ... c=27041280

First, please send him & his family good, positive thoughts their way for a recovery, it looks like it's going to be a long, hard road for him.
Secondly, coming out of this was plenty of discussion about neck devices. I bought a Leatt a few months ago & rode with it a few times but haven't actually raced with it. That's going to change. if you do some research on YouTube or articles on the internet you find that these things are worth their weight in gold. So, here's the deal, I'll have my Leatt with me at the races next week. If you have questions, want to try it on or even test ride it your more than welcome to do so. Iv'e read a TON of info on these things so hopefully between myself & Kerry Ropelato (if he's around) we can answer all questions.

I'm actually going to sell my Leatt & get a Alpinestars. Iv'e been having issues with my short ass neck being compatible with the Leatt, but that's just me. It's brand new & I'll give a discount. So my adive to you older racers & especially the guys with familys check one of these things out. They range from $200 bucks to $550.

Are motto is no brace no race !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bruce have you look in to the moto gpx ? I think I read you got the adventure brace and can not be adjusted like the moto gpx . If you would like you can check out Billy's next weekend . Also Leatt is making a brace just for the BMX'ers where the rear shelf has a bigger dip in it for the helmet to set in when your on the gate looking down track . Billy wants a Mike Day signature brace but at $ 600 I think will wait .

They do take a little time getting use do and had a hard time getting Billy to wear his at first . Now it just part of gearing up to race .

Bruce also you need to change the title of this thread to young and old riders as they are both prone to these injuries .

Your right Bill. I'll see if I can edit it.

I talked to a guy at MX shop in town & he had experiance with both. He told me people with shorter necks would be more comfy with the Alpinestars. It has a very slimline design right thru the mid to back half off the shoulders. There are alot of companys making these now so I would suggest taking your helmet with you & trying it on before buying one. I didn't & it came back to bite me.

Great, now we are going to have to get one. It's funny yesterday Wyatt and Tyler were hanging out and were saying they both wanted one. Now I'll have to start looking into this.

Did anyone see that video David Bailey did a couple of years ago after Ernesto Fonsecca got hurt. It's very compelling. You can watch it at http://www.vitalmx.com/videos/features/ ... 96/GuyB,64. It's worth a watch selling the virtue of these neck braces.

That was a wierd freak deal. Robby and I were the first ones to him when he crashed going over the jump into my turn one. I had my back turned but Robby saw it. Said he flew through the air from way up, landed straight down on his head really hard, legs straight up like a dive and rolled over on his back. He seemed really dazed, but was talking, but not making much since what he was saying. Something didn't seem right for sure! I asked him to move his legs but he didn't seem to be able to. Not good! I called for the medics within about 30 seconds. Scary deal that makes you think!
