Hot Indoor Racing this Weekend!!!

Rad Canyon Indoor BMX cranks up its third weekend of racing on November 16, 17 & 18 at the Salt Lake County Fairgrounds in West Jordan. Check out all of the details for this weekend and the Winter indoor series at www.radcanyonbmx.com and www.utahbmx.com.

The Rad Canyon crew put on a great event that draws riders from far and wide. Every Sunday of the series there is the Big Money Pro-Am where the fastest riders in the region strut their stuff for bragging rights and CA$H.
Each weekend their are select special open races for:
- MTB's
- Pit Bikes
- Cruisers

Rad Canyon is also the ONLY local track in the BMX world that webcasts its races. So if you are not fortunate enough to make it out to the event you can watch the races from the comfort of your home.

I'm not totally sure on the webcasting this weekend. I really want to test out my full video recording of the races, and that may not allow me to webcast at the same time. I would have to bring out 2 computer systems to make that happen; one for the webcast and one to record and download video.

i've got parts i don't use. not great parts, but you shouldn't need a screamer to webcast. maybe a few of us could pool our parts into a PC that could be a dedicated webcaster?

you're using a PCMCIA card for internet, though, right?

Yes, the webcast "equipment" is my laptop with Sprint PCMCIA wireless card. I've searched for any available wi-fi connection in the arena, but there is none (so I've been told). Otherwise, a desktop PC would be pretty sweet. What I really need is the full webcast/video production hardware and software that allows me to run both, but I don't have that level of financial support at this time (otherwise known as me begging my wife to let me buy something).

Maybe I'll see about bringing out one of my desktops, I was just hoping to not have to transport and lug around a ton of equipment (cpu, screen, keyboard, mouse, etc).

I have a pretty new Vista laptop you are more than welcome to use. Its got lots of horsepower. Well, not really much once the bulky, over sized, inadequate Vista OS loads. Just make sure you only stay with a certain application set, don't load any software, and don't do anything that Vista might consider a security violation (like hitting the Enter key or typing) and it should work fine.

I have retired this particular laptop and gone with an XP laptop and a 24" iMac

Does this laptop have a 4pin Firewire port by chance? I need to connect a video camera....

or.....

if it doesn't, I may be able to use it for the webcast, I just need to install the software for the wireless card, which I'm sure may end up being a security issue

Yessiree. It does have the little Firewire port. Other than the fact that it has Vista it is actually pretty nice.

One of these days I will upgrade it to XP and it should be a fine machine. Either that or I will figure out a way to load OS-X Leopard

Well alrighty then, I'll try and put it to use.

I need to download and install 1 program (Windows Media Encoder), and hopefully it will recognize the camera and be good to go. Then it will be just a "thru point" as I'll be recording straight from the camera onto an external drive.

Well, scratch that. I couldn't find Encoder for Vista on the Microsoft sight. Well, looks like we'll try and webcast with Vista. In that case, I'll need to install my Sprint software for the wireless card.

Should be fun!

Brent - thanks for posting. Yes, I have looked around there and other places too. Lots of good info in x86 hacks out there. I am just wondering if it is worth it to go ahead and do an XP load on it since we now have the iMac.

The other side of the coin is that I already have a new-ish (six months) XP laptop for work and two XP PC's so yet another XP device might be a little redundant. I am thinking another option might be a Linux variant like Ubuntu.

Or maybe, just maybe, I will revisit my techie past and load all three

I've not ever done the Hackintosh thing but I have a friend who's done a few of them on different hardware.

Every once in a blue moon I play with a Linux flavor but it's increasingly less that I do. My faves are Suse and Ubuntu.

However, if you loaded all three; a Windows, MacOSX and a Linux distro, it's likely that you will cause a major rift in the time/space continuum. Be careful out there!
