This in my report I did over at Vintage.
Ok, I'll keep it all BMX & keep the other stuff I did not at the track for another time.
Russ & I were going to go to the track Thursday but some thundershowers prevented that so we went back Friday expecting to practice only to be told that there was no racing & no practice!(?) We were bummed but one of the volunteers said we could practice no problem, so we spent the better half of 2hrs getting to know the track.
I was really grateful for the time, esp. for Russ as he really hasn't had any track time since his comeback & I was alittle worried about him getting hurt (again). I met Mike Post, very nice guy & after we had enough we went over to all the volunteers & thanked them personally for the track time. We went home feeling alot better about the weekend.
Saturday went show up for the double pointer. Good crowd & turnout, something like 38 moto's. I met Mark, Paul, Jeff Manning & Moe.
I took some practice & felt GREAT. We got to know each other under the tent & these guys are awesome. Good guys & easy to get to know. Pauls parents showed up & they were pretty cool too.
41-45 had 5 riders. I had yet to meet Doug but I hear he's the hotshoe of the group.
1st moto. "The incident".......I get a good pop but so does Russ & Doug from the outside. Russ falls back down about halfway. Doug is pulling on the outside, I go low & up into Doug. We come together, things are ok until the 'bows start flying, maybe it was me or maybe it was him who started it but who cares, things are tight! Doug has the hot line & takes the lead down the 2nd straight. I settle in behind him & know I can set him up in the 2nd corner & have no reservations about pulling the trigger. A very aggressive low-high results in me making the pass but left Doug no-where to go but over the bars & down the berm. My rear gets caught up with his front end & we both go down in flames. The announcer is going crazy. We lay there & Doug is screaming like he just broke something. I got tangled up in the bikes & had to lay there for a minute before getting up & riding off.
I said to myself I'd better lay low & let thing settle down before seeing if this guy is OK. I run into Doug awhile later, we talk & there is no bad feelings. It turns out that we are just hard nosed competitors & even at 41, if the move is there & we think we can do it, we go for it. Another thing, we have alot in common other than BMX & we ended up talking forever it seemed like over the weekend. GREAT GUY!
2nd moto, I got the pop but those damn corners got the better of me & Doug layed down a great low-high of his own in the last corner & beat me to the line, good race.
Main time. I got another good start but just didn't have enough from gate 8 to win the corner. I tried to reel him in but just couldn't. Matter of fact, Moe could of blow me out of the water in the last corner but checked up at the last moment.

Sunday. 55+ motos. SCR.
I was feeling the effects of the crash & after 2 days of hard riding I was toast. My energy was sapped & my legs were gone. I was just going thru the motions.
Russ broke out the Ace 24" & a guy by the name of Gary Walton showed up. Everybody on the gate was as fast or faster than me so the main was tough. I got a good pop but going handlebar to handlebar over the first jump between Russ & Gary.....I cheezed out & brake checked up. You could of thrown a blanket over Doug, Gary, Moe & Russ through the 1st turn, it was tight!
Doug brings it on home with Gary & then Moe. Iv'e got to say Moe dogged Russ for third until Russ decided to go straight up the last berm instead of turning......I saw a good race to the line with Moe winning the 3rd. Nice job.
What a great group of guys Minnesota has & fast to boot!
Russ's 24' Ace. We figure it's a 94'.
Russ's 24-26 Norco MTB he raced on Saturday.
Russ over the first jump.
Paul & Moe. Class acts!

Thanks for the welcome Mark!
Moe on the inside, me on the out & Paul bringing up the rear.
I can't believe I lost to a smoker! Doug Carlson is seriously fast.
Practice time.
Russ & me.
Here's alittle video from Friday practice session. Me with a Stone cold Steve Austin inpersonation driving Russ nuts.

Bruce,
Thanks for the excellent trip report! Sounds like a great time.
It is a lot of fun hitting up local tracks for local races in somewhat 'obscure' locations. A couple of years ago we hit up Carson City BMX and South Lake Tahoe BMX on a business trip I had to make. Not only did the kids have fun, but I made friends that I have known since and we have a blast when we see each other at nationals.
The BMX community is truly amazing and we are always happy to be a part of such a great sport. Props to you for going to Minnesota one week before their national and having a great time!

Bruce it was good to see you and talk to you. It makes me miss home a little less when I run into people I use to see all the time racing.
I forgot to congratulate you on your win at the Salt Lake National when I was talking to you! You probably didn't get much sleep that night!
We will be racing our first national (I say we, but really it is Teagon and Teryn) in a year this weekend in St. Cloud. Wish you could have made the national here!
Sounds like you had a good time! Hope to see you again in our neck of the woods sometime!
