Points Calculator and tracking individual points.

Postby J Gallo » Thu Sep 09, 2004 8:02 am

The time has come (hopefully) where I can start working on programming the points calculator to start tracking individual points, wins, etc.

My first question is, will anyone actually use this? I ask this because depending on which features I program in (see 2nd question), this program could take anywhere from 20-40 hours to program. If no one will use it, no sense in even starting.

My 2nd question is features. Obviously, the main focus will be to keep a running total of your points throughout the year. But I can also keep track of wins, dates, track name, how you finished, how many riders, etc. What info would you like to be able to track?

And last, does anyone currently use a spreadsheet or other medium of recording their points? What categories do you list on your sheet?

I would appreciate any and all information you can provide me to help make this feature usable and fun.

Thanks for your support!

I think it is a great idea and it would be used by a lot of people even outside of Utah.

If you build it, they will come...

I know of a few people who could really use it indivdually, it would really help if a rider could just log in, type in the date, the points, etc, etc, hit save, and be on their way, no late night addition or last minute guesses. I think it'd help.

Yes - like last night when I was trying to figure out how many points Bennett got this past weekend. Normally I can do it in my head, but I was just too tired.

BTW - he got 449 from Thursday until Monday thanks to two races that he raced for Expert points.

Ok, here's the categories I've got so far:

Race Location
Date
Race Type
Riders in Class
Finish Position
Race Points
Total Points

My question is are there any other categories that you'd like to track? Keep in mind that after this is all in place, I will write another program that will give you rider stats. For example, it could tell you your average finish at a specific track, number of single/double/triple point races, average points per race, etc. But if we add more categories we could calculate all kinds of stats.

Let me know if you have any ideas!
