Hello fellow UTAH BMXer's,
I have talked with a couple of parents and riders about creating a BMX Summer Camp program and it has been received with a great deal of excitement. What do you think? How many of you, or your racers, would be interested?
None of the paticulars have been finalized yet but here are some preliminary ideas:
- 3 to 5 days in length (Which would you prefer?)
- Day camps, lodging will not be supplied
- Transportation may be offered, TBD.
- Extensive program that will cover gates, jumps, turns, strategies, custom tailored training programs, gym time, mental preparation, diet, bike maintenence and more.
- Multiple sessions may be available if the interest is high enough.
- Video review
Please supply any feedback you feel would contibute or enhance the program.
Thank you,
Steve

Steve,
Count Austin & Ashlee in. What if a few parents volunteered to supervise camping at the track??? I guess showers would be the only negative...hmmmmmmm.

Steve,
This is a GREAT idea!
I know I have gotten to the point with my son Spencer where I can no longer give him advice on how to improve. I can continue to work on the basic skills, but he really needs someone that rides at or above his speed and skill to help him advance. Plus, advice is always taken better when it isn't coming from dad.
I've thought about sending him to one of Greg Hills summer camps, but the cost would be pretty big. If we could get something set up locally, with MEANINGFUL training, that would actually help him advance and keep him motivated to train, I'd be willing to......well...I don't know what I'd be willing to do.....but see me later.....I'll think of something
Anyway, my vote is for the 5 day'er, as early in the year as possible, and try to split it up into skill levels.

That is a great idea to get some additional track time as well as leadership from some of the local icons. Skylar would love to participate and I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can.

Wow - this site has become a factory of great ideas. Count Bennett in for attendance and count me in for help (hint - I am a pretty good bike mechanic and wouldn't mind teaching)

COOL! Thanks for all of the support! It sounds like the program should get a good crowd.

The camps are great for the kids. My son had attended Bubba Harris's Mid-West Summer camps for the last 3 years. It is very unique and we even got to see Utah Superstar, Arielle Martin one year when Naoki broke both of his arms.
But honestly, I think you should let the camp staff take care of all of the teachings and skills. Only thing that parents should be involved is to watch for themselves. The track directors or TO could help with water, snacks, and lunches.
We had a overnight camp, where ABA Supercamp had rented out a lodge for those days, so shower and bathroom were no issue.
This year, we are scheduled again for the Summer supercamp. We may also attend the Woodward camp in PA, which looks very cool.
Good luck Steve!

Steve,
I heard that there is a new company in town that may be interested in doing just this type of thing. I cant quite remember the name of it........something like A-S-S (Athletic Science Society). Could be wrong though.
You heard anything about this?
