Learning to manual... a question

Postby J Gallo » Fri Jun 25, 2004 12:10 pm

Is it normal to bonk your head on your handlebars? LOL

I'm trying to learn to manual the doubles out at RAD, and I'm getting close, but last nite I came down early, bonked, and nailed my helmet on the handlebars.

Boy did I feel like an idiot!

Commence your ribbing now......

The ABA requires 3 pads for that very reason!

Jason,

hey man, everyone has to learn sometime and somehow!! It just takes a little time. You should have been around three years ago when I came back. bonk city, crash city!! don't sweet it. step up jumps are the best to get a feel on and then move on to doubles. if you need some help let me know.

JS. three pads? really? whoops I guess I better get my stuff together. everyone knows pros don't run stem pads. we don't have anything to protect!!!

everyone do your no rain dance!!!!

I think that might be my problem. I got too confident cause I was manualing pretty consistently on the step-up coming out of the 1st turn, so decided to go for the double.

Just need more practice, and good helmet and chest protector :)

Motor skills.....

Knucks- and gang!

we learn to do by doing...!"

Motor skills like manualing can be learned. The process is different for everyone. You make a good point- we all have to decide what is "worth" learning, and what is best left to better riders. But what's the fun in not being the better rider. That is the racer mentality vs. a bmx rider mindset.

Just my $.02

you are very correct on that i wont take that away from you but on the other hand it not a whole lot different between a dirt jumper and a racer the lines are there you have to be smooth one mess up and its done....just like a race...but to learn every aspect of a race is a very strong trait to have and perfect practice is the only practice to have!!!!!! sorry kids dont listen to the dirt jumper go with the pro....there is a reason he is pro and were not....he he

I was riding at Fuzz's house last night and was manualing his new rythem section  I kept looping out myself :( I have not had problems with it before, but had a heck of a time last night. I will post some pics of his yard as soon as it is all done, maybe Saturday!
