The S.L. County Fair races, looking ahead.
Here's a couple pics I took of the track this morning. Not too much to look at yet. It's hard to tell in 1 of the pics, but the "sweeper" first turn looks done, and also the 2nd turn. But there is a great pic of the new "trailer" gate Rob's been building! LOOKS GREAT!!!
The track will be located in the arena immediately west of the indoor facility.

Just a suggestion... This track in my mind is for show not really for the typical race. If I understand the whole idea. We are trying to attract new riders? well if it was me I would make sure you have plenty of room to pedal out of each turn to get up some speed and try and build big jumps. I think kids would enjoy watching the riders catch some air vs. hitting 12 rollers in a row? I know dirt might be limited. But if everyone remembers that this is a showcase race not your typical race then I think it will go off well. We all know what a big part skill has in racing, but the average joe doesn't. they are thinking motocross! so lets give them a show. I know I would be impressed to see, Healey,Patterson's,Rope etc. skyin it out!!
Anyway, I'm not the one who makes the decisions, just an idea? TP

I think that is a good suggestion. Rollers may require skill, but they don't provide as much excitement as airing it out. Either way, I am sure the track will be great. The gate looks fantastic.
What are the odds the county will provide some more dirt? Looks like the pickins will be slim after the starting hill and a couple of obstacles are built. Do we need to call in the EDC? (Emergency Dirt Crew)

Starting hill= Bob's gate trailer! = Dirt Saver!
Steve Spencer= Highly skilled and organizer of BMX tracks who understands the event completely. You Know this guy plans for wind direction and sun angles when he builds a track. For sure He'll plan sufficiently for obstacles and stuff.
He's built a few tracks in his day, I understand!
We are gonna have a FANTASTIC week of racing! This is Utah History unfolding right here, ya'll!
I'm headed out to give a hand this afternoon (Tues)- can anyone else come build our track?

Oh, I am sure it will be great. Rumor has it that they sourced some more dirt and are doing everything they can to make do with what they have. The berms may not be that big, but that will just make it easier for spectators to watch
If Rad gets rained out tonight, Bennett & I will be out there using some hand tools with our raincoats on.

As an update: I stopped by the Fairgrounds after the Rad race was cancelled due to rain. Steve, Brandon, Jordan, Mike, Darla, and Colton were there working before the rain fell again.
The track looks awesome. Steve has done an excellent job using what dirt he has available. The track appeared more technical and bigger than I would have imagined. It is not complete yet, but it is getting close. Big props to Steve for doing such a great job! I think this track will have something for everyone!

Thanks Dennis!
The track does have something for everyone and will lend to some good times and great racing this week.
To all BMXers... remember, we are ambassadors for BMX and we should be on our best behavior and be helpful and friendly to all. It is a huge opportunity to showcase our sport at the fair, lets make the most of it!

the gate should work pretty good by the time we get it all done.. the next step is to put three 8ft by 8 ft gates off the back.. but i'll tell you what, if you see Dave Halladay out at the fair this weekend tell him thanks, he spent over 50 hours cuting grinding, fabricating, and everything else. I know that i've spent a month over at Daves house helping get it done. But it's all for the bmxers out there, but please let Dave know how much we appriciate him for his contiued efforts he still gives to the bmxers, also Brittana for puttting up with Dave and myself over the past month... thanks Robert
also thanks to all those who went out and helped steve, jason, mike and everyone else hansons, birds, flook, bonkers, smiths, donnners, boyds, and the list gos on and on. But thanks everyone for helping get this off to such a great start, and let's show everyone out there about the sport of bmx thanks Robert
