Ok, just had another brainstorm:

What about using a program like Dropbox? www.dropbox.com

There is a free app for most mobile platforms like iPhone, Android and Blackberry. And it would be incredibly easy to install onto the track computers, no programming necessary for uploading files. Not to mention easier to use for track officials.

For those not familiar with Dropbox, it's basically an online folder. Once you save a file into it (like from the trackside computer) it is instantly available to anyone else with the Dropbox app. It's just a matter of setting up the shared folder to see RAD Canyon files.

Thoughts?

As for the Dropbox idea that would be more up to the riders/parents, i think we use whatever is easier for those who are going to check the motos on their phones.

Great solution! I hope we can make this happen. I also have dropbox on my iphone already so if we could use that I would be all for it.

Could we use dropbox for the way the track gets the motos to the cloud and have the website serve up the pdf's that were placed in the folder via dropbox? That way you could use either dropbox or the website to look up moto information?

I think we'll probably go the website/upload version first in the short term, then see where to go from there. I thought the Dropbox idea would also work, but that would require everyone to set up an account.

Hopefully we can get some sample moto sheets to upload for testing soon. Interested to see what it will look like on the small phone screen.

On a side note, I think you will still hear the "riders check your motos" announcement 200 times :)

Melton mentioned that they may be able to tap into the internet connection at the facility, so hopefully that can happen. I guess worst case scenario they may need to "MiFi".

Also, I have the number for a contact at the ABA and will be calling them this evening to get more details on how to make this happen. Stay tuned!

Ok, talked to the ABA last night and got the run down how they do their online moto sheets. Parts of the process are a little over my head, but I think I will be able to figure it out and get it done. Overall, its not too difficult of a process.

However in the short term, I have finished up the upload page so we can hopefully print the moto sheets into a PDF format then upload to the site for viewing on http://motos.radcanyonbmx.com. Melton is going to test the printing function tonight at the track and let me know. As soon as that is handled, I'll just need to finish programming the display page with links to the files.

Has anyone else used their mobile device to access http://motos.radcanyonbmx.com and tried to view the PDF files? Any issues so far?

We are very close, probably 95% done now. Just need to do some final programming tonight and we'll good to go.

After testing for a few races, we'll tweak it if necessary depending on feedback we get.
