I very strongly believe that this is the job of EVERYONE to work with the riders, not just the track officals or the volunteers. They have enough on their plate already that it is a hassle for them to remind kids to do the simple things such as WALK THEIR BIKE around the arena. I feel that these errors are causes of not only due to lack of racer integrity, but maybe due to age, enviroment and lack of parental supervision.

Maybe in some stretch of the imagination, this is the cause of the parents either not there at all, or enjoying themselves to the point that they igore their childrens whereabouts, for whatever amount of time, yet it can and is long enough for them to find trouble.

I honestly don't believe that it is the kids who love BMX. I believe that it is the younger kids who have older brothers and sisters who race and they don't enjoy it at all. I think they do it because their bored, like vandilizing the bathrooms, but I also think that spectators could be to blame.

BMXrs are a tough crowd and we attract a tough crowd of people. Maybe the graffitti is the cause of the spectators, who came to see a guy or girl race, and then due to peer pressure, were dared to do it. Peer pressure is a tough thing and with BMX being a sport in which all ages can compete, everyone could be to blame.

We all need to pick up the slack. This cannot happen anymore and we all are to blame for this weekend. Inside of everyone of us are outstanding people, and we need to act like those people, and less like the people who have been causing the problems. The BMX community has had a great oppurtunity in the past to participate in races at the arena, as well as the Salt Lake County Fair. Lets get invited back this year.

Hopefully its not too late.

:( If we don't stop this foolishness we won't be invited back :( we all try hard to keep the indoor track as clean as possible and pay good money to race there. And just ONE dumb person can screw it up for all of us. Please take care of the track

I'll be the first to admit that my son is of the curious nature. I always appreciate when other kids or even the adults come and tell me what Justin is up to. I take the time to talk to Justin and tell him the things he's doing wrong and why it is wrong. I'm constantly walking around when Justin is not in eye sight. I ask everyone I see if they know where he is. It's a constant chore but I don't want my son disturbing others. We all need to work together. That's what our BMX family is all about!

So are we on for next weekend or what? Do I get my Race for Lifers ready...or did some brainless action of a really "great" person get in the way of hundred's of people's fun?

Just wondering....?

Yes we are on for next weekend. The county is confident we will stop the abuse of property. Now we (all of us) need to be sure we follow through. The Rad officials will do their part. And I am confident that racers and parents will do their part. Lets have a great weekend.

Actually there's been too much finger pointing. If people don't know for sure who did this they shoudn't speculate or spread rumors. The responsible parties probably don't even visit this site.

Just so everyone knows, there will be a new list of rules put together and handed out this weekend and WE the track officials will enforce those rules. There will be a list of consquences.

Also for general info the ABA rule states that anyone caught vandelizing will have their ABa license revoked indefinintly.

Ok, so I visited the facilities twice on Sat....(I'm sure you all need to know that...) Both times I went in there, kids where in there messing around! Once, it just looked like normal kid messing around, but the second time was a little more disturbing.

So there I was, washing my hands, and a couple of 14/15 year old racers come storming in the bathroom carrying a 10ish year old kid. The younger kid is crying, kicking and screaming his head off. He's cussing at these guys and screaming at them to tell them to stop.

At first I thought these kids were just terrorizing the younger one, but I had to take a min. to see what they were really doing...I really had the thought, "maybe the kid is having a problem and they are helping him...."

NOPE! Not this at all. The 2 older kids set the kid down and continued to torment and tease this kid. He had no where to run, his back was against the wall, they tried to force him in the stall to give him a swirly!! They were threatening to do it anyway. I thought this is a great time to use my Jr. High teacher skills on these two. My hands were still dripping wet so I wipped them on the two older kids jerseys. I asked, " hey you guys, do you know where the towels are?" They looked at me like, who is this freak and did he really just wipe his wet hands on our shirts? It was just enough of a diversion to let the younger kid go screaming back out of the bathroom to go tell his mom-or some adult lady. ( I don't know if this was the best method, but it was the one that came to mind first. )

We all walked out of the restroom. I started back to my side of the building. Then I remembered this post- AND the letter I was handed as I entered the building both days this weekend. I thought it was my responsibility to maybe find out who these kids are, and find out why they were acting like this. You know, it was so strange to see such older kids acting so strange with a younger kid. I went over to the group. The younger kid was telling an adult woman what had just happened. I don't know the relation of the lady to the kids...she appeared to be the transportation of these racers. She just laughed it off. He was still really upset, crying and disturbed by the whole thing. She just laughed it off. I went over and stood by the group, the two older kids just sat down and ignored me while the younger one re-told the story to the same adult lady- who again, just laughed it off! Another little racer, about 6 or 7 then starts to tell me how those same two older kids teased him. No one over the age of 7 would talk to me or answer questions, so I just stood there and watched some strange behavior...

The two younger kids started beating on the two older kids! The older kids just took it, and didn't move...because I was standing there. The adult lady just sat there and laughed.

I was so confused by this strange group dynamic I just walked away confused, sad, and dumbfounded thinking- I can't believe what I just witnessed. I didn't get names, cuz...anyway- it just got too weird!

I KNOW that there is more to the story than what I just saw, but what I saw was disturbing. I hope there is some sort of explaination to this whole thing....I really do hope.

What's the take home message...Don't be a dipshiz and come bike racing. I don't know...I guess it's more of the same- please keep track of your racers during downtime. Racers, please do something constructive not destructive with your downtime!

What a disappointing experience. This whole problem is much bigger then what the symptoms are showing. The vandalism and fire alarm are just symptoms of a much bigger problem- People not respecting people, or people not respecting the priveledge and sacrifice of many who make racing possible.

I didn't recognize the racers... I believe they were from out of town. I really don't know. I recognize that I may be wrong in parts of this, but dang- show a little respect! Punk-azz kids!

Houston, we have a problem...I think one of the twelve steps is recognition?

Anyway- Let's continue to do what we can to solve this one.....
