District #1 history.

Postby bnd » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:35 pm

The other thread about 3 districts got me thinking about a project iv'e been putting off for years, putting up the history of district #1's since the ABA came here in the late 70's. I think I have enough info now that I can piece together 90% of the years.

1985 was a wierd year as the ABA split up the season in 3 -4 month seasons (yeah). The "Summer" "Fall" & "Winter" seasons. It had something to do about letting BMXers who do other sports in the summer still be able to compete for a #1 during there "on" months.
This info will take some gathering. It was also the first year where the ABA added a 2nd district.

As much as I would like to put the years in order, I literally have boxes of ABA mags I have to go thru & most of them are out of order year wise, so you get what you get.

I thought we got the split district in 02 or 03. Robby was the last class D1 before the split. He was UT01 D1 for 6 or 7 years straight till we got out spent by Curtis Newkirk just like I did all those years. And then we get the PC "you can't get D1 if you get a NAG (which you can't just buy) plate" thing akin to not keeping score (example) in Jr. Jazz Basketball. I still think if you earn (read buy) the points, you ought to reap the rewards. No offence meant to anyone but the kids know who won the game and so does everyone else. So that means I would have been like D24 instead of my "earned" D19 in Cruiser 2010. Sorry I strayed from the original intent of this discussion.

The original split was in 85' but they went back to one district a few years later when the rider counts dried up. I will pin point that year down as I move thru the years.
