Casper Wyoming

I had the opportunity this week to go pick up a rig for work up in Sheridan Wyoming, and figured if I was going to drive all the way up there I should see if any place was racing. Turned out that Casper races 2-3 times a week, and it just so happened that one of the nights was when I was going to be there.
I pulled up to the track and was immediately greeted by members of the BMX community. I instantly knew I had made the right decision. The track has actually been around for a very long time, 27 years to be exact. They gave me a brief history lesson, and then we took a look at the track. It is a short track, just over 1000 feet, and pretty much every straight is downhill. I liked this because pedaling makes me tired, especially after driving from Logan to Sheridan and back to Casper, legs were spent. They had just lost water for the year a week ago, so the track was starting to loosen up, but it was holding up good enough to get some hot laps in before race time.
Race time came, and it was dark. They do have lighting, but be that I am afraid of the dark, I noticed the middle of the first and second straight could use some light, but the corners and for the most part the jumps were well lit. 9 motos, just around 30 riders for the evening. I couldnt get over how awesome everyone was to me. It didnt matter if I was up at the gate, or sitting on the bleachers, people were coming up and talking to me the whole time. It reminded me of the East Carbon BMX days, just local BMX at its best, having fun, everyone knows everyone, and welcome outsiders with the most congenial dispositions ever.
I ended up racing 16 or 17 experts, they have some fast up and comers for sure. They charge 3.50 entry fees, and instead of trophies they give out BMX dog tags with 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. I gave my first place dog tag to a little kid that was there watching the races to see if he wanted to try it out. Im pretty sure he is going to shred later in life.
IF you ever in the area and have your bike you should check this place out for sure. Here is the website with the race calendar, also check out there local "cup race" pretty cool idea if you ask me. http://www.mikesedarbmx.com/

Great write up and it sounds like a great scene. My favorite quote: "pedaling makes me tired". Nice!!!

That's cool, Jonas. We had a similar "small town BMX experience" when we were the only family from Utah to show up for the COG invitational in Bozeman. Believe it or not their last straight was uphill! Still a super fun track and super cool people to hang out with.
