Hello fellow Utah BMXers,

Here we go again, another exciting and fun filled indoor season is upon us! A key component to our tremendous weekends is building a safe and quality track for all to enjoy. We are fortunate to have two days to build the track in Davis County but still doesnt give us a whole lot of time so we need a little extra help from the willing and able. If any of you can make it out for an hour or two or more on Thursday or Friday it would be greatly appreciated by the build crew as well as the racers who are ready to hit the track for practice asap on Friday night. I will be building all day Thursday into the night and most of the day Friday so there is plenty of time to come out.

If you can make it out please contact me at steve-spencer@hotmail.com. We will throw a rake in your hands, put you on the Quad to do some packing or point you on to another task.

Please remember that our races would not happen with out the valued help of all of our volunteers here in Utah.

Hey, just wanted to throw some ideas out there for you for the indoor tracks this year.

I totally understand dirt is limited but hopefully you'll like these ideas.

1) A new shape for the first corner.
Place a jump directly behind the last berm--in the sweeper basically--(table would be safest for racing), have it lead into a 90* berm--the berm wouldn't likely need to be that tall per say... but the angle is what would make it work. It would likely be somewhere between a 90 and 45. The width of the jump should be such that it would force riders into the following berm. Probably 1/2 to a 1/3 the width of 1st straight.

-Rather than using the dirt to bank a entire sweeper, use sweeper bank dirt to build the berm.
-The dirt used for the jump normally leading into the sweeper, would now be used behind the berm.
-Then perhaps add a few rollers/small table/small double combos down the first straight.

2) When you do get to build "pro-sections", put then on the second straight.
I also don't think that these jumps need to be dirt-jump style jumps. Perhaps some over-sized rollers linked up to form doubles/triples/quads/(pents?)/six packs (whatever the spacing between them should be) so it would basically be an over-sized rhythm section that riders could jump/manual through. Think 04 grands rollers after the big jumps on 3rd straight. Plus, just building rollers saves much more dirt than filling in doubles.

Just be sure that the "pro-section" is faster than the am... or I would place them 15-20' right out of the first corner, so the faster guys, who drift outside anyway, will have to go that way anyway.

This way the pro-section would be applicable to the race, not just something everybody does when they crash, have a big lead, or jump after the race. Plus, Ron won't have to worry about somebody getting hit (cutting the track, standing around the finish line) and riders will have to start at the gate to jump them.

The "am-section" could consist of smaller jumps/rollers.

Consequently, the third straight will likely have less jumps, so maybe throw some short (height) but long (distance) jumps in there, or something similar to what you build down the second straight. Then do a roller section down the last.

3) Double berm anyone?
Just like the ones in dual slalom. Might add an interesting element to the races. It would likely have to be the last berm because everyone is single file by then, but could make for some great moves and racing! Plus, it might save some dirt not having to build as tall of berms.

Some very interesting ideas Travis. Maybe with 2 days available to build some of these might be used. I do know the first thing Steve is going to say is "Ok, c'mon out & help!"

I would like to see the 3rd straight go away from a rythem section to something,.. anything else..... then going into the last turn, pull the chalk line down & away from the bottom of the corner to "open up" the turn so racers can attempt low-highs instead of your typical follow the leader line. Yeah your going to have contact made by braver racers but so what? Let's put some more excitement back into every moto.

Last but not least, can the RC crew go buy some big, gallon sized dispensers of hand sanitizer & put them maybe at sign ups, the snack bar & one down by staging (Heathers trailer?). With this many people in close quarters & the flu & H1N1 floating around, this just makes sense.

Wish I could help out! At school ALL DAY Thursday (10am-720pm... urgh) and most of the day on Friday... sorry Steve Besides, most of the work can only be completed by the man behind the BIG wheel... (that big tractor has got to be SWEET to operate). Everything else is just raking out and packing in where dirt has been placed...

All are great ideas and will do my best to apply them, time and resource permitting. If I had 3 or more days it may be more doable. The Pro/Am section down the section straight would be tough as the width and length arent there to allow proper flow. When you come out this weekend I will explain it better to you.

Your kidding me right?

One of our companys good customers is a huge call center out at the International center, about 200 people on the main floor. They have dispensers everywhere. I personally wash & clean my hands at least a dozen times a day. Keeping your hands clean & away from your face are the two biggest things you can do to not catch a bug. That's just common sense.

Tell you what, RC can save their money & I'll flip for a few dispensers, ok?

Tracks looking good as of thursday night. All three turns are done and the second straight is in with a table, double, step up. steve made the straights about 10 - 20 feet longer than last year, so it's actually a pretty long track overall. I'll try to remember the camera in the morning and post up a few pics.

If anyone is able, help with hand work on the 1st/3rd/4th straights is still needed from 10am to race time.
