Rad Canyon 2009 Outdoor season update- up coming practices

Postby mackdaddy » Fri Apr 10, 2009 7:20 pm

Ok folks we have had along break after the indoor season, but its about time for the out door season. So we have been working on getting the track ready for the outdoor season. Due to some scheduling problems, along with weather issues, we have decided not to rebuild the track this year. We are not going to be doing a rebuild this year. The track will be the same jumps as last year. However that doesn’t mean we don’t need help getting the track ready for the season.
So with that said we have the following schedule for working on the track and for RIDING!
We will open the track on some upcoming Saturdays for work and practice. If you want to come out and help with some work we will let you ride for Free! For the kids we will ask you help with the pick up of trash and weeds. For the adults we will need help with raking, track grooming, weed clean up etc.

OF COURSE ALL OF THIS IS WEATHER PERMITTING!!!!!

Sat 18 April – Open from 11am to 3pm, we will want to get work done on the track mainly so we can ride.

Sat 25 April – Open from 10am to 3pm, finish up with clean up and track prep

Sat 2 May- Open from 10am to 3pm

The first Tues night practice of the season will be 5 May, and the first race of the season will be 7 May!
Tues Practice 6:30pm to 8:30pm cost is $3

Thurs Race Reg 6pm to 7pm racing asap cost is $10

Makes me wish I actually had a Saturday off.

I work until 3pm every Saturday :(

I really am trying to come back out to the track!

I should be out to help on Saturday. Will there be any time to ride on Saturday April 18? Or will it be mostly work?

Thanks

I have been working the track for weeks its in pretty good shape. We need to be cleaning raking weeding as Jason said. If we just get after it it should leave plenty of time to ride. It would also be nice to have a good turn out to spread the work out more. I need some help on the OPTS track I have done some work but it needs alot more!!!
Thanks Mont

We are still planning on doing some work and some riding.......... no workie , no ridie! Come ready to help.
There will be no gates, we are pooring new concrete and setting a new gate. Dont worry all that work is being by a contractor!
So track will be open about 11am till around 3pm

Can somebody take some pics of the work being done & either send them to me or post them here? Is the new gate going to be angled more on par with a standard 30* or whatever the ABA suggests?

Thanks,
b.

I've been planning on posting some pics for a few days now, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to post them up. Throw me a bone, will ya Bruce?

As far as the gate goes, it's coming together nicely. Ron did his homework and has purchased the nicest gate on the market. It is sweet. Tearing out the old gate gave us the chance to re- grade the angle of the ramp, so it is now on the same angle as the rest of the start hill. We also added some 'traction strips' in the form of expanded metal that will definintely add some serious hook up. What's more is that they are removable, should they ever need to be cleaned or replaced.

We poured the concrete on Friday, and will finish up with another small pour on Monday, and then the concrete will need a couple of weeks to cure before being fully ready to take the impact of the gate slamming down moto after moto. Trust me, the wait is going to be worth it! Working through this process, one thing became perfectly clear; Ron has more passion for this sport and this track than I ever could have imagined. He is fully committed to providing all us racers with the best facility available. If you haven't thanked him lately, take the chance to do so next time you see him!

Gallo used to have a picture upload feature here, Iv'e dogged him about bringing it back as my personal pic hosting site is always maxed out. Either send him a message telling him to get on the ball with a new one, get a picture hosting site yourself (I use Picture Trail.com, it's easy & great!) or send them to me & I'll post them up for you.

Thanks for chiming in!

Hello to the powers that be!

With the forecasted weather Friday into Saturday morning and then the Supercross later, what would be the chance of getting a little practice in on Sunday out at Rad? That would really help us out going into Bakersfield!

Thanks for your consideration!
