Bruce,
I can totally see your point. For me the last four years have been on again, off again. Alot as changed from being 22 years old, my sons birth, getting married, full time school, full time work and my knee surgery. With all this going on, I haven't had the time to ride at an expert level. I sometimes wonder if I am an Inter and not an Expert rider. I have tried to get back into the mind frame of an Expert rider, but it is hard to do so with someone that has alot going on.

There are a ton of BMXER that are just as busy, and they find ways to get around this obstacles. I keep hoping that one day it something will click and I will find my way back to an Expert level riding. Until then I just go out and try to relearn everything.

I'm not saying that someone should reclass just so they can "WIN", I'm just saying that in some situations it could help riders feel more comfortable. I hope the best for Bruce and Gallo and will not be bugged with their decisions. Thanks for hearing complain for a minute.

I'm staying expert. It seems that some people think I'm at that level & I'll take that as a compliment.

Did you know......................

That these riders were once Pro at one time or another? This is just off the top of my head & has nothing to do with this topic.........

Recently I had this discussion with my older brother, that after coming to races thought about coming back out and reclassifying to Inter. I told him that probably wouldnt be as much fun as he thought it would be.
How I see it, if he were to come back, it would take a few months for him to get back on it like he was before, and then he would be killing his local class. Some may see this as me being conflicted as I have recently reclassified to the amateur ranks, but then again I dont race every week and live in a location where I cannot ride a track daily, which in the professional level is needed to be competitive. However, if I lived in the city, I would be racing pro for sure.
I guess that its up to each individual, and where their at in their "career". I would just end saying good luck and have as much fun as possible.
DO WORK SON!

I know you said it didn't have to do with this post, but I do think it's unfair to compare people reclassing from Pro > Expert with those going Expert>Inter.

Racing pro is a completely different level of commitment and training than any of the am classes, and the pro classes are not split in age groups like the am groups are (I know there's a Vet Pro class, but every year makes a huge difference -- once you hit 40 a new group of those "young" 35 year olds show up every year). I have no problem with pro's dropping down to am once they feel they are no longer to give a full time commitment, but in the am classes, people should just race with the group that they feel their ability/experience puts them.

So far as the ability to have time to train goes, and it's effect on being able to hang with experts, I think it's all in how you manage your time. I race in a very fast group, but last time I checked, Spencer, Melton, Edwards, Smith, and myself all had jobs, kids, wives, yards, basements to remodel (are you ever going to finish that Dallas?), etc. and we still all get out to the track and have fun.

B. and gallo, you both moved expert early? why didn't you stay the course in the system, earn all your wins and then go ex? did you think it through? just curious. (is it ever a good idea to move classes early, or should we trust the system the aba has?

I moved up in 01' & I was ready. Like I said, I'll stick with expert.

Bruce,

I think that you should reclass. With a new baby i'm sure you don't have the time to train like a expert/vet pro. I was think about getting a new 20" bike and starting all over as a novice. What do you think? I'm sure that I lost all my BMX skills. You may need to hold me up in the gate again. O ya I lost my sprint since I became a USCF elite 2 on the road.

See you at the track,
