Your favorite bike shop...

Postby bosshogg » Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:45 pm

Hey guys,
New guy here that was hoping for a little advice.

While it has been a while since I have raced (early to mid 90s), I figured now is as good a time as any to get back into it. Over the last few years, I have been collecting the mid-school stuff that I used to love. My only problem is that most of the bike shops I used to frequent are either A). gone or B). more geared towards road and mountain.

I recently took my old Redman Cruiser into the shop and they looked at me like I was from outer space. They thought I was nuts for even riding a BMX, let alone one of those "weird 24 inch BMX bikes".

I think the whole point to this post is to find out if there are any shops that still enjoy the BMX community or even employ someone from it. What bike shops do you go to and which ones do you prefer?

I also need a good wheel builder. I have a few sets of hubs/rims that I need laced up. Seeing as I don't know how to lace hubs or figure proper spoke length, I will need someone to do this. Any suggestions?

I know that the new guy always asks stupid questions but for those that answer, Thank you.

Hey bosshogg....

in our vicinity (Holladay), Hyland Cyclery and Cottonwood Cyclery are good. Staats has a shop out in Sandy, too.

At the track you will find Performance Bike Parts. And they can get you what you need, just holler at Heather or Ian.

I second the Staats shop in Sandy. They can get your wheels built up, too. Definately bmxicans through and through.

If you're at the track, then Performance Bike Parts...period.

Other then that, these are the local shops that I have found BMX friendly:
Hyland Cyclery
Golsan Cycles (106th south redwood rd.)
Taylors Bikes (5400 south and about 3200 west)

I'm sure there are more, but thats all I can think of right now.

Absolutely, hands down, no question about it....

Performance Bike Parts.

Heather and Ian do more to support our local BMX scene than probably every bike shop in Utah combined. They are (and will be) the ONLY bike shop sponsor of UtahBMX.com :D

Plus, they are just phenomenal people.

Go with the power of the Heathan

Oh.. and welcome to the site Bosshog! :!:

I would also agree with the bike shops mentioned. I am looking for a rear cassete hub or wheel for a cruiser, so if you have some extra's and are willing to part with them please let me know

For BMX knowledge and parts. Ian and Heather at Performance Bike Parts is the way to go they are dedicated to BMX.

For Mechanics depending on where you live Bountiful Cycle has awesome mechanics that have built wheels and bikes for me. All the guys that work there have their own Cruisers or 20's.
