It is great to hear of the possibility of a new indoor in Tooele. The past indoor events seemed to be successful and should continue as so if it materializes.

Diana,
A few things that may help the cause:
1) The county should have it on file but compile the rider and moto counts from that last few years of the Tooele indoors.
2) Retrieve the rider and moto counts from the Rad Indoor and outdoor and Logan indoor events last year.
3) Enlist the support of John David (New Track Development) at the ABA. He is a valuable resource and has jump-started numerous facilites nationwide. He will even come meet with the county. If needed, I can contact him about making an appearance to meet with the county.

By having the data documented for review coupled with John David's representation, it should make for a solid run at the facility.

Good luck,
Steve

Thanks Steve,

The things you suggested have been done in years past trying to get an indoor, the problem is not that they don't know or believe that we can make money, or that we have rider count, the problem is that the county does not YET see the value in paying up front for an indoor.
There are also those few who still think that Deseret Peak should only be for rodeo events. Now it is out of our hands.

As for any current updates, there is good news and bad news, the good news is that we have not heard anything from the county, so no news is good news.
The bad news is that the people we want to get the building from, only want to give us a month to month lease, they said if they get a better offer on the building we would be out, and with what they are asking for the building, the county could end up losing a lot.

Maybe I was reading your response incorrectly. If they, the county, know that they can make money with an indoor facility, how can they not see the value? Plus, the "value" should include the fact that the venue will serve as positive influence for all who attend. Ultimately, would it operate under a lease or would it be a dedicated full-time BMX facility? Again, I feel John David at the ABA would be a tremendous assett to assist in solidifying the deal. His job is based solely on creating new tracks and convincing government entities that BMX facilities are a positive addition to any youth/recreation program. He is a "specialist" and we have acccess to him.

Anywhere we catch a hint or a breath of chance that we can establish a new BMX facility, we need to take advantage of it.

Steve,

Thank you for all of your suggestions, and I am sorry for the confusion as far as the word "Value" goes.

you said

"Plus, the "value" should include the fact that the venue will serve as positive influence for all who attend."

this is where the problem comes in, yes they have seen the $'s they have seen the rider count, what they don't see IMO is the value in spending county funds, for a sport that is not yet valued in Tooele, and basically it is not, 90% of our rider support comes from other counties so I believe what they are thinking and reasoning is that the money could be much better spent if they put it toward something that was going to be used by Tooele County Residents.

This is why we are trying so hard this year and last year to get BMX involved in the community here, by doing service projects, by opening up to and involving ourselfs in the community, I am hopeing that then they will see that BMX and the people of BMX have some value in this community.

The building we are trying to get now would be a leased facility, we have turned over all the information on that and for now it is a wait and see situation, it is completley out of our hands.

We are now and for the last few years working for a permenant building at Deseret Peak, we submitted a budget for that again and hopefully we will get it, if not this year then next or the next.
I have not contacted the ABA this year in reguards to this perminant facility but I have in the past, and have gotten no responce.
I will try again though.

I hope this is a bit clearer than Mud,

Diana

I'd be there! Despite popular belief. I would look forward to it as my Sundays are totally free. I would also lend a hand if needed. Indoor racing is important to all of us! It keeps us sharp for the upcoming 05 Nats! Count on me being there and supporting this project! Rich

Hi everyone,

I am sorry to say that we still have no answer yet, and I am not too confident that we will get one anytime soon, so for now plan on no Tooele Indoor and we will just look forward to next spring.

If anything changes I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Diana
