This "endo" was pretty bad- it was followed up a "scopy!!"
Hey team-
I've been fighting Crohn's disease for the last 10 years. Mike Kelley teases me about being a bi-polar racer. "Stout- we never know what we're gonna get from you at the races...sometimes you are so fast- other times- you look like you're checked out..." I'm going to try to shed some light on why...
Racing for me has been an important aspect of my wellness over the last 5 years. It has given me something to do to get my wellness back. I strive to be strong to be able to race. It gives me benchmarks for good health. It's something that I love to do. Most of the guys that I race participate because they have kids or relatives that participate in the sport. My health has allowed me to be strong sometimes- and not so much at other times.
I lost half of my body's blood over the last few days. My Hematicrit (sp-?) is at 21 right now (super low blood count). I am just coming off the anesthetic so I'm as loopy as can be. I'll be here for another night as they are planning to give me 2 units of blood and keep an eye on all the trouble they discovered during the "endo"- "scopy". I've had really good health for the most part- but trouble comes once in a while.
Thanks Utah bmx family for all of your friendship and experiences. I'll do my best to get back in the game. I'll for sure tune in to the webcast this afternoon and watch the races from my hospital bed. Feel free to come by- I'll be here until Sunday morning.

wow Jason, thanks for the update. A friend of our family has Crohn's and it is not pretty. I would have never guessed anything was wrong with you, because you're always so outgoing, positive, and happy I've heard Crohn's is very VERY painful, and you my friend are a trooper! Good luck, and God Bless, you are in our prayers. Let us know if we can help out in any way?

It's been one crazy week of healing. My Hem. level is up to 34! (36 is Low Normal)- so I'll keep trying to shake this anemia by next weekend!
Health is a strange thing. You never truly appreciate it until it's taken from you. I've learned to appreciate every moment of good health that is given- especially the good times on my bike and at the track.
Good luck to all the racers in Reno!
I'll try and drop in on the "town meetin' 'bout the berms!' next week.
Thanks again for the continued support from all of you!

Yo J stout
recently I was tracked down by an old friend from preston Idaho that I traveled with and raced against throughout the my teens, John Cross. At first I didnt recognize his voice, but once I realized who it was I sure was glad to hear from him. He told me that he has been battling Crones disease, and he then went on to tell me about how he lost himself to the disease, and that for a while it got the better of him. Well Ill save you the details, but what I wanted to say to you jason, is that it is awesome to see you battling this disease head up and thinking right. Many people believe that fighting a disease is about taking massive amounts of pills, and sitting at home until they get better. I find it inspiring that you have an outlet such as BMX to help you get better.
Well hopefully you are better next weekend, and that you realize that your surrounded by one of the greatest families there is, the Utah BMX family.

It's good to have you back on the track too! I read your blog from last race- good stuff. Pics are awesome too. You're amazing on the big bike!
Ironic isn't it- the best way to battle a disease is to get out on my bike and battle my awesome comp! No going easy on me- you know I'll pimp you as soon as look at you!
Go Aggies!!
