Jim Melton passed away, more details to come.
For those who don't know who he is well, he is one of the true pioneers in our sport. He founded JMC in the late 70's & turned out some of the BEST frames & forks ever to be produced. He sponsored many Hall of Famers & was inducted into the USA BMX Hall of Fame.
I had the pleasure of meeting him in person at one of the Vintage Rockford events in the mid-00's. A true class act & one meeting I will never forget.
BMX lost a good one.

BMXers of a certain age will remember Mitch from the late 70's-early 80's.
He was one of the first group of guys that turned Pro around here. Sponsored by SE Racing, running a Quad w/1 3/8 wheels.

He was taken out by a drunk driver last week & didn't make it.

Deanna Edwards Jamison lost her battle with a fast moving cancer a few days ago. I had the opportunity to know her & hang out with her over the years. TP was a friend of her too.
She will be missed and as soon as her obituary get posted, Ill share.

Kevin Sleater, Danita and I went to the viewing last night, wow, what a turnout. I think we stood in line for 2 hrs. What a great show of support. The BMX crowd was there too, we saw the usual suspects but saw a lot faces we haven't seen in ages. Mike was extremely stoked to see us and said he would try to come out to a track this summer to say hi.

I'm going to do a good write up on this kid who died way to young. I was fortunate enough to catch up with him in February at the indoors while we were sitting next to each other.

I've been working down in Provo this week and being down there finally provided me an opportunity to look up Scott Fazzio, Jeremiahs Dad.

It was funny, it took him a few seconds to remember who I was but I made him think & he finally got the face & name right. I asked him if he had a minute and we went outside to talk. I got pretty emotional telling Scott the last time I spoke with his son.
Over the years at BMX races you get to know people but you really don't really sit down and chat with them, it's usually in passing, standing at the sign up booth or maybe up in staging. I had known Jeremiah since he was a kid but really never talked at length with him. I've sat many a time around his parents and saw how they always were a pretty tight family.

Last February, 2017, at the RFL & old school gathering race, we entered the arena and sat down at the far end of the EZ Up row. Sitting on a chair by himself was Jeremiah. I walked up and said, "Hey Sonshine!!".... he turned and laughed at me, we sat down and made camp. We spent the next 30-45 minutes catching up with each others lives and shooting the Zip a de doo da. It was the most I had talked to him in a decade I bet. Jeremiah didn't stick around to race that day but we both said our goodbyes & said see you next time. There wasn't a next time...........

I shared this story with Scott & also told him there are some memories that are forever burned into my brain, one of them is his Mom screaming from the stands....."Go Sonshine!" that always brought a smile to my face & I'll never forget it.

I told Scott not to be a stranger & when he's ready, come to a race & say hi. If you know them & see them at a race, feel free to give them a handshake & hug.
I'm glad I made the time to do this today, life is short & you have to make the best of it. Sounded like Jeremiah did just that.

On another note, Jeremiah was the first racer in the State to earn over 20,000 points in one year. I don't have the year but I'm sure it was in the mid-2000's.
*EDIT* - 2003 was when he reached 20k+.

This guy............Jerry Flores, passed away a few days ago.
When we moved back to Utah in 1982 to Draper, Jerry was our neighbor, he was really into BMX, after my brother & I got our bikes and gear, all 3 of us spent a season racing. He quit after a crash or something like that & after a few years we lost touch with each other but what GREAT memories, it's a very sad day in the Ritter household. RIP my friend.

Jerry I. Flores “Pansas”, age 60, passed away peacefully, finally free of pain and surrounded by family at his home in Price, UT, Tuesday, July 25, 2017. He was born May 9, 1957 in Murray, UT, to Fernando and Christine Flores and raised in Midvale, UT.
He graduated in 1976 from Jordan High School. He was a successful and caring CNA for many years. He also took great pride in his work for Price City Parks & Recreation. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bumping his music, four wheeling, and spending his free time with family and cherished his grandchildren. In his younger days he was a daredevil jumping cars and buses on his BMX bike.
Jerry is survived by his children Jessica (Ryan) Jensen, Amanda (James) Carlson, Jermaine (Kendra) Flores, Shaun (Brandy) Flores, Felicia (Jeremy) Lucero, and Fernando (Cristal) Flores; his parents Fernando and Christine Flores; his siblings John (Sherma) Flores, Tony (Mickey) Flores, Louie (Monica) Flores, Henry (Sharon) Flores, Jesus (Lori) Flores, Paul Flores, Robi (Jerry) Kramer, Mona (Kevin) Lovell, and 15 grandkids Preston, Lucas, Chandler, Jayden, Jayven, Jazlynn, Daunte, Jordan, Macie, Dallas, Jayda, Ava, Fernando, Desmond, and Cory. He is preceded in death by grandparents Juan and Mary Flores, Refugio and Jean Saldivar, Gelasia Saldivar and nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 6-8pm at Broomhead Funeral Home; 12600 S. 2200 W. Riverton, UT. The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at St. Therese’s Catholic Church; 7832 Allen St. Midvale, UT. The vigil begins at 9am followed by the funeral mass at 11am. A celebration of life will follow the funeral services at St. Therese’s social hall. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Broomhead Funeral Home.

The 1st BMX "star" of the sport here in Utah, Scott Roberts passed a few months ago.

Lorne Wiberg, Utah County old school legend passed away a few days ago.
