Big Ripper Finals wrap up.

The race -
18 riders, semis, T.P., Beau Mahaffey, Dylan Collings make their 1st time showings this year adding to an already competitive field. The usual suspects made it thru the motos & the semis were 2 groups of 8, taking 4. All eyes were on the 1st semis which had Mitchell & T.P. in it. Seriously, everybody was watching. Mitchell wins it. 2nd semi, it was Alvey, Randall & myself going into the 2nd corner Bo-Bo got under me, contact was made & i hit the deck, I also think I got ran over as I couldn't stand up for a minute. I was ok for the most part & was totally fine with what happened. Beau, being the Southern gentleman he is, was apologizing at the finish line but I told him out of anybody there, I was glad it was him I got to trade some 'bows with. 15 or 54 years old, it is still exciting as hell dealing with berm warfare. Crashing still sucks but that's part of the deal when you sign up for a race.

Mitchell, Randall, Collings, Doc Alvey, Oblad Medina, Mahaffey, Brighton Alvey & Todd Parry.
I was in the upper tower watching it go down, Everybody gets out but it looks to me Mitchell, on the inside has a 1/2 a wheel lead but running up to the table at the end of the 1st straight, Jared checks up just a bit as TP blows right thru the obstacle & ends up getting into the corner 1st. I was waiting for Jared to make a last run at it as he has some great track speed but it never came, which was a surprise. TP wins it going away with Jared, Zach, Doc, Brooke, Brighton, Dylan & Beau finishing it out.
The magic 8-Ball said a rider over 50 would win the main & it was right. Todd is a freak of nature, at 52(?) shows no signs of slowing down. It was pretty exciting seeing the two past champs duking it out, Godzilla vs. King Kong , Rocky vs Apollo, The Rock vs Hulk Hogan.....you get the picture. Such a privilege to witness, thank you guys.

After a few minutes looking over the finishes & tallying points, Brooke wins it. As Dave called her up to accept her award, I knew it was going to be emotional & it was. Without getting all sappy on the readership here, it was one of the most memorable & touching moments I have ever been apart of. Yes, there were tears shed from a lot of people present.
This my 3rd year doing this series & it has grown leaps & bounds every year. First off, I'd like to thank Legacy Raceway BMX for allowing me to hold this event. I'd like to thank all 34 racers that have participated in the series. You have supported a local track that honestly was on life support a few years ago. Your participation has turned things around.

The SE Big Ripper bike was won by Russ Biles while the $200 gift card was won by Kevin Tulin. I was watching everybody when TP was drawing tickets & you looked like kids on Xmas morning anticipating opening a gift, lol. Pretty awesome.

The event -

I'll shoot straight here, it was hard, really hard to run. We had 28 riders signed up. I won't go into details but lets just say it was a challenge in staging. Danita & Cori should win some sort of iron woman award for patience & dealing with crazy stuff on the fly, all the while sporting a smile on their faces. I was sure I was going to be served with divorce papers after the night from my wife after I told her it was going to be no big deal running the LR races. If we do it again, we will make some changes to make sure it runs a lot smoother.
Anyways, Ryder Mitchell wins it. looking like a mini-me version of his Dad.

13 & over Open.
Keegan Stieger has been the fastest, older kid for the past year & he ran away with the win.

My thoughts -
The event was something else, I had the feeling of like we were prepping & putting on a rock concert. The vibe in the air was electric for us at Legacy. Everybody had smiles, grills were going, music was great (Van Halen all freaking night!) and a great crowd. How could it NOT be a great night when the Mahaffeys came down from Rock Springs, The Edwards & Dilleys were in the house! Thanks for coming up & I did find an opportunity to put Kevin to work for a minute or two.

I'd like to thank The Radfords for running the raffle, Brandon Smith for the loaning of the 4-wheeler.

Last but not least, I'd like to thank Dave Cote for making this event special with his announcing. some of the night was flying by the seat of our asses & he made it easy when others, like myself was stressing. I was told this is his last gig, I'm grateful that he took us up on our offer & came up.

I got home around midnight after turning off the lights with Zach & stayed up till 2am celebrating the evening. I told my wife that I could honestly retire today from BMX & feel satisfied with my BMX career. Last night was just soooo good on so many levels. I wish I could of visited more with friends I haven't seen in ages but they told me they understood.

All I can say is" DAMN THAT WAS A FUN NIGHT"; battles in the turns make the adrenaline start pumping and the smiles blare! Good to be home racing with friends again.
